Who stole my cervix?!

edited June 2011 in Third Trimester
So, I did a self-check in the shower today and my cervix is really, REALLY short...actually, it feels like its not even there! I'm 32w4d. Has anyone else experienced this so soon?

P.S.--My baby is now head down as of last night! I felt him when he turned, and it was confirmed at my appt this morning! I'm ecstatic! :)

  • Im jealous..how did it feel when he turned
  • Did the ultrasound tech say your cervix was short? The minimum length for a full-term pregnancy is about 2 cm. Mine is like 4cm so I can't say I have exp. that! lol Good that his head is down so you might not need a c-section. Congrats!
  • I wanna no how to self check!?
  • He was very active when I got in bed to go to sleep, which is kinda normal. Eventually, I started noticing that his kicks were moving from my left side to the center of my belly (above the navel). Two weeks ago, his head was above my navel and his feet were "down below." Once I felt his feet/legs above my navel, I just knew his head had to be down. I really prayed that he would turn soon and he did! :)
  • Lucky lucky...I'm 35 weeks and I don't believe my baby has turned yet he's probably gonna do it las min
  • @Deni_b, Thank you! I haven't had a u/s since I was 18 weeks. They won't give me another unless problems arise (which I don't think will happen).

@Mrz_Jackson2anpreggo, I just know how my cervix normally feels. I had the Mirena IUD for almost 2 years, and would have to check the strings often. It is usually long enough to make its presence known and I could draw a circle around it with my finger. Today, there's pretty much nothing. I'd say it's definitely less than 2cm!
  • My first girl right now has been staying head down but the other is transverse for now. Let's just hope the first one stays head down and is the larger of the two or they remain relatively the same size to avoid a c-section.
  • @Deni_b: Are you having twins? :)
  • @mya218 Wait, your Dr. hasn't given you an u/s since 18 weeks?! How do they know nothing is going on? I thought they do u/s every 4 weeks to check growth and they will press down on your belly with the vaginal u/s to make sure your cervix doesn't open with pressure and check the length. Now I'm lost lol.
  • Yes, twin girls :)

Yep, I've only had 2 u/s (8 and 18 weeks). They just measure my belly with measuring tape, listen to his heartbeat with a doppler, and check my vitals (blood pressure, urine, weight). I did the glucose test as well. Other than that, they just ask me if I'm having any problems. Bummer!
  • @Deni_b: Congrats on your twin girls! I have twin sisters who are 18 months younger than me and they are very close to each other. :)
  • Thanks! My sisters are twins to but I'm 5 years older.
