Scared of everything @ 18 weeks.

Hi, I am 18 weeks today, i have huge bloated feet, swollen hands and legs, pins and needles in my finger tips, i have just been to the doctors and she said there is no protein in my urine but too many leukocytes so its been sent away for further testing. I have also put on about 7lbs which she thought was alot for 18 weeks along. I am feeling baby wiggling but mainly when i eat or drink. I am just so scared of everything and have so long to go i just dont know how to get though it calmly without my own ultrasound equipment! Am i the only freak worrier on pregly?

  • Nope, I think we all are at some point. Everything used to scare me too and some things still do. It's gotten to the point where my bf is calmer then me which never used to be the case, lol.
  • I am 18wks as well, and i freak too, but then i lay down for a bit and poke at my stomach and the baby pokes back, So i think you just need to take a day and learn to relax more.
  • @beautifulone my husband is totally calm, so laid back hes horizontal, i think i worry for us both! lol

@ready4gurl i think i should just google less, it never helps! Baby does wiggle alot now so i guess thats my reassurance but i am looking forward to having a few more regular pokes! I have just called a therapist friend of my mums who is going to teach me the skill of relaxing which i dont posess so fingers crossed! Thanks :)
  • @three_cats_n_a_baby YES googling things can be bad. I worry too from time to time. Things to remember never watch any shows like I didn't know i was pregnant or or any pregnant shows other then baby story on TLC, The like discovery show are educational but there bad when it comes to making you fear
  • @ready4gurl so true u have to be careful what u watch too, aaah! i wish i was a cat they only have to wait 3 months! lol
  • I was as worried as u im calming down more but ur right u should google less and not read too many sad stories I stop and feel calmer, at 18 wks baby movement is slim good luck hun
  • im in a simular boat but 17 weeks. try to stay calm till you find out what exactly is going on
  • too much weight over all.. thats sounds weird cuz at my 19wk.. apt my dr. said my wieght gain was fine and i had gained 13lbs.. so i dont know what your dr was talking about.. what is your reccomended weight gain overal mine was the normal 25 - 35 lbs.. but i hope things get better for you.,. you must be misserable with all the swelling.. and if the weight gain was over night or within a few days it could essentially just be all water weight... i hope you get news soon.. to ease your mind .. good luck
  • I'm 18.1 and I freak out too. I had bought a fetal monitor from craigslist and it makes me feel so good. Everytime I pee and wipe I'm afraid I'll see mucus or blood. Pregly can be good for advice but also bad if you read about all the scary stuff and think it'll happen to you.

I'm sure you'll be fine, and baby too
  • I was freaky with my first. Weird things happen to your body that you have no control over! Maybe you should look into getting relaxation massage therapy. I am a massage therapist and I know with hyperedema (swelling) massage is a wonderful tool to get your blood flowing upwards. Its caused by too much fluid in one area. If its out of your budget then have a loved one give you a massage :) two more things... don't stress about your weight gain. Tell your doc that it was upsetting to hes about the weight issue. They need to back off sometimes. Lastly, pray for peace. I believe God is willing and ready to answer our prayers. So, try Him out. Ill keep you in my prayers too!
  • @lae3 hey, i have never been given a range of weight to gain, i am not mega overweight so i dont think its a bad gain at all, i think she must have just calculated kilos to lbs wrong or something! The i have had my feet up and laid down where possible and swelling has gone! Feel so much better so think i may have just had a funny week, and probably overdid my walking last weekend which didnt help! And im pretty sure i just have another bladder infection so im not worried now and baby is wiggling like a trooper! :)

@Leggs2011 i have faetal monitor but its one for 3rd trimester so wont work for a while, think i might get a proper one so i can use it now and sell this on! I check toilet paper everytime too, i cant imagine not doing it now?! Thanks so much for your comments, everyone seems a bit more positive now then when i first joined pregly so its good to get some reassurance :)
  • @2ndBunInTheOven hey thanks for that :) I am actually going tommorow to speak to a home therapist who says she will teach me the skill of how to relax which i definately dont have! And some teqniques that i can keep even after being preg so that should help :) Massage would be good tho so i am hoping she does that too, my hubby has given my feet a rub and it is seriously the best feeling in the world at the moment. I also have a voucher for a normal massage pace so i am going for one next weekend, then i think i might treat myself after that too! I think the weight thing must have been a mix up, so strange otherwise! And thank you so much, i need all the help i can get to get through the worry! :)
  • Well if ur swollen in ur feet n stuff @18 weeks n have protien n ur urine u might have preclampcia ?? Which is a nooooooo good thing
  • @waitingformybaby @three_cats_n_a_baby Well this is my second, so i feel everything sooner.
  • yea my mom had given me a gift box set fetal thing, but it doesnt use lube so it doesnt work right now since baby is so small. I tried again last night. Still no Luck.
You can go on ebay and get the one I got. Or first check your craigslist for sure. I dont use the special gel. I just use baby oil and it works just fine. This is the one I bought off of CL, http://cgi.ebay.com/Baby-Sound-Prenatal-Fetal-Doppler-Heart-Monitor-Gel-/120723419449?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c1bad3139, Though I'd like the one that counts the heartbeats.

I always checked the tp when trying to tcc and dreaded seeing that damn blood. Now I'm afraid I will see blood again. But the monitor really puts me at ease. And when I feel baby move :)

    And your welcome.
  • @Babyluv_3 no protein in urine luckily, definately not proclampsia.
@Leggs2011 probably the same set i have then, its just like a microphone things, its rubbish and cant see it getting any better! Thanks i will get one of those on ebay! :)
Have been feeling baby move for a few weeks and its alot more regular now, especially the last few days so thats pretty reassuring, and feeling alot better now i have had chance to relax :)
  • ya you know ive never really swelled with my first two.. and with this one i had a lil swelling after an hour workout.. i felt good .. then when i was done noticed fat feet and hands.. ugh.. i knew i over did it.. my dr. told me a healthy weight gain at my first apt.. i just assumed it was protocall.. lol
  • O sorry thought u said protien n ur urine

Just to add to this conversation, if you get a heart monitor, which I have got...it is lovely as a 'nice to have'. But I was told by the midwife and also read an article which said NOT to use them as reassurance. A few people have felt no movement and worried a little, heard what they thought was the heartbeat on the monitor and didn't seek help; fact was, they had heard another pulse like the cord or the placenta, and the baby's heart had stopped. So basically, if you have a doppler, don't use it as medical reassurance that your baby is ok. If you ever sense your baby is not moving as much as usual, always seek medical assistance. :X x
  • Not to try and scare anyone, lol. I just wanted to make sure everybody is careful :) xx
