baby's ears

edited June 2011 in Pregnant
I keep thinking that I would like to pierce my almost four months' old ears. Her pediatricians does it so I know it will be safe, I have had piercings since I was 3 years old so I know they would be cleaned and taken care of. I asked her dad what he thought about it and he said it's up to me.

Really the only thing that is stopping me is what if when she is older she decides that she doesn't want pierced ears? For now I'm going to wait and leave it up to her, but what are your thoughts?

  • My thoughts are if she doens't want them, then let the holes close up and she doesn't have to wear earrings! I am piercing my beauty's ears at 3 months. I, too, had this debate with myself and decided on the answer I gave you. I had this debate on here as well, so just to forewarn you, it may get a little heated. I had people compare ear piercing to circumcision hahaha.
  • I don't personally know anyone who's had their ears pierced and been mad about it. But I don't want to worry about taking care of them and having them get ripped out or infected. So my daughters have to wait until they can take care of them herself.
  • I got my daughter done at 8 wks old so wen she's older an wants to wear earrings like me she won't have to go threw it wen she's older. My 3 year old son has his done an he loves wearing earrings like his dada.
  • I'm so glad I got his done as a baby :)
  • My parents had mine done when I was little and would always make me wear ear rings. My ears are smaller than average and anything bigger than a stud looks crazy. I just choose not to wear them now that I'm an adult but sometimes I do wish they were not pierced. Not the end of the world though!

I was thinking about that as well, if she doesn't want them just take them out, but I was worried about a scar. But then I did reason that what little girl wouldn't want earrings at some point. All the girls I have met either have them or want them.

Thanks for the warning bke, hopefully we can all act like adults and agree to disagree. I have made up my mind about waiting but I still was interested in what others had to say. :)
  • Im going to let my daughter ask me when she wants her done. I do remember reading to wait until they are 6 months old. Something to do with their immunizations. I will see if I can find the article. My neice had hers pierced at two or three months however and is perfectly healthy :)

I got my son's done last year, he was 6 almost 7 and wanted it done for 2 years. He wanted both but decided on just one after it was done, he has a zero tolerance for pain so I'm hopping that my daughter will be braver because one side on girls looks silly to me.

If I do change my mind and decide to get it done while she is a baby it will be done by her pediatrician.

  • @conreeaght thats cool your pediatrician will do it! Obviously they know best. @Mrz_Jackson2anpreggo my daughter has been inquiring about getting her ears done and wears sticker earings. When I take her, I want to make sure both sides are done at the same time!
  • @Mindy061606 o definatly ! I no here in the mall at Claires if ur kid is a certain age they do them at the same time but idk how old u have to be.
  • My u/s doc said she saw a six year old boy with spacers.
  • I personally didnt get mine peirced until I was around 8 yrs old & I wish my parents wouldve done it when I was a baby. I was so scared lol, kinda had to believe cause I have a few peircings & tattoos now.
  • i pierced my kids ears when they were that young. my daughter loves it and loves going and picking out new earrings. my son on the other hand had to take his out for school(private) and decided to leave it out and let it close.
  • All the girls in my family got it done in the few months after they were born. All at home as well. I even helped doing my nieces ( piercing needle, ice, eraser, and gold studs) I'm having a girl and I want hers done but now I'm scared as hell as to how to do it. I know you can do the gun but the piercing earring is usually gold plated and it makes me nervous...but I'm also afraid to let anyone do it by hand..even tho that's how its always been done in my family....any suggestions?
  • I said.....bump! *pout*.......lol :p

  • My mom had mine pierced when I was a couple months old. And it never bothered me...they r still pierced 25 years later. But I wear earrings. I plan on piercing my little girls ears.
  • My mom had mine done when I was about a month old. I plan on getting my daughters done as a baby too. If she doesn't like em she doesn't have to wear earings. I never wore any until highschool (I can't wear fake jewelery and had a really bad experience with fake earings) and the minute I chose to start wearing em again I also stretched em :)
  • @gatorbob @redhead25 @mandiixmayhem how do you think a baby should get it pierced? Like at a shop with a gun or a piercing place or home with a needle?

  • @mommabee13 if I can get a doc to do it I will. I don't like piercing guns personally.
  • @gatorbob @mandiixmayhem thanks, I didn't even know some drs did that
  • @MrzJackson2anpreggo

My son has a zero pain tolerance. So that's why he only got one done. I knew going in that was how he was going to be.

@mommabee13 some pediatricians will do it now, or might recomened where to get it done.
  • Piercing guns cause scaring. I would recommend going to a peircing parler. I won't be getting my daughters done. My mom had mine done young and my ears didn't grow the same so I can't wear earrings without looking crazy. Plus my son is known for pulling and that's a scar a littleone just doesn't need
  • My daughter got hers done @ Walmart they did them good n clean job they do them both @ the same time ..also u have to wait till there 2monthS old cuz they have to have there 1st shots ...
  • I got my daughters done around 8 months. She is 4 now and absolutly loves them!
