Husband changed his mind

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
My husband & I totally agreed that this was going to be our last, so I did research. & some of it was from what I heard from you ladies about getting my tubes burned or cut instead of tied, well when I was going over it with him, he said well you don't want to do that, what if we want another? I just kind of looked at him with a blank stare, has this happened to anyone else, I don't think I want anymore & a month ago he had his heart set on it. I'm 21 with 3 kids, almost a 5 year old almost a 3 year old & this one due in a few months. Any advice? I like to think I could always have that chance, but...none of our kids were planned.

  • It's a big desision and if you have any doubts about doing it at all then don't do it, From what I have learned once it is done it is done and any reversal process is not gaurenteed and most likely not covered by insurance.

or atleast discuss it further with your husband. He might just be saying that because he is worried you might change your mind and he doesnt want to feel like you only did it because "he wanted you to." You could always go on a long term BC or discuss other nonsterilization options with your doctor.
  • That is a big decision to make at 21. (What I mean by that is there are many child bearing years to go) I think any doc who performs that procedure would make damn sure it's 100% what you want. You could consider a bc that would be long term. I had an iud put in @ 22 and I had it removed 4 or 5 months ago. Had it for 5-6 yrs. It was ok for 10. That's something a little less permanent but requires little maintenance. (Visit your ob one or twice a year to check on it, you can also check it yourself ) good luck!
  • i agree this is a big step . understandably your children werent planned bu i think a long term bc would be better. down the road when your children are grown and on there own your husband and you may decide another baby is what you want . my mum was that way she had 3 children my older sister then me then my brother . she remarried and her husband wanted children lucky for him she decided not to have her tubes clipped . if she didnt i wouldnt have two awesome little brothers and one diva of a little sister. good luck with the new baby and your decision
  • My auntie never wanted kids and when she got pregnant she was shocked and after she gave birth she had her tubes tied and 11 years later she has a new partner and they both want kids together will cost them £3000 to get them untied and there's no garuntee wud work, my advice is look into something like an iud or an implant (if they have them in the states) you never know what you want in years to come :) hope this helps xx
  • I was in you same boat 3 kids at 21...my ex got a his stuff cut...I wouldn't get my tubes tied...I wanted the option of more kids.
  • Thanks ladies, I have heard a lot about Mirena but I also like the 10 year iud @katlilly what was it called do you remember?

I know they call it the copper iud. Its not made of copper, so idk why they call it that, but its non hormonal, so no weight gain or any other side effects associated w hormones.

*its ParaGard and it contains copper lol. Just looked it up :)
so there's only 2 kinds, this and mirena.
  • They call it copper because they used to be made of copper. My hubby has said the same thing. We agreed that 4 is enough, we can each claim 2 on taxes, can't really afford more. Filled out the papers to get my tubes tied, and now he's talking about having another after this one is born! Im thinking I'll just get the 5 year hormone implants instead. I tried mirena, and it caused me to have infections, so that's not an option.
  • Thanks! @katlilly & @4enough I will defiantly check into it!
  • Yep. Gonna talk to hubby and dr about implant. Didn't know you could still breastfeed on it, it only lasts 3 years but is covered by most insurance. Thanks for the info
  • Cool thanks again!
  • Np ;) good luck!
