MY DR IS CRAZY

edited June 2011 in Second Trimester
I am 20 wks 3days went to dr appt today for monthly check up. I have gained a total of 6pounds. My dr really looked at me and said she would be happy if i gained NO more weight this pregnancy. I currently weight 215. I looked her like she was crazy. With my other two children I gained 18pds with the first and 16 with the second. As if we as soon to be Moms don't have enough to be worried about. Arghhhhh

  • How rude! That would tick me off !
  • Wtf I would be pissed ice already gained 20 and I'm 26 weeks I have to stop too but it was me not my doc that said that I would be pissed I weigh 290 now what the ef I would be pissed if your overweight the most u should gain is 20 lbs not 6 ef her
  • isn't not gaining anymore weight after 20 weeks pretty much impossible? that was really rude of her to say..
  • i really dont understand some drs i have gained like 70 pounds so far and all my dr said was we need to make sure we dont have a unusualy large weight gain in a small time cuz that could be a sign of diabetes i have 2 weeks 2 days left so odds are i hopefully wont gain much more only gained 6 oz from week 36-37 honestly i feel ive gained too much but my dr said that its fine baby is measuring good sized (she said probly 9 pounds when born thanks for terrifying me doc)

  • I thought it was really rude. She told me to ride a bike (let me just strap on my helmet and get biking ) or water aerobics ( i guess I'm 90yrs old as well) I know I'm not twiggy by no means but really

  • I've had two healthy pregnancies before weighing more and gaining more. I don't need my dr pointing out my TRUTHS I dress myself everyday and am well aware of my weight
  • how can they tell you not to gain more then 6 pounds when the baby itself usually weighs more than 6 pounds plus the placenta and the amniotic fluid. that's really screwed up I would tell them to kiss my butt lol. I weighed 240 when I got pregnant lost 25 pounds in first trimester cuz I was so sick now I'm 38 weeks and back up to 238 and my dr never said nothing about it... if I were you I wouldn't worry about it.
  • That's ridiculous! I am 28 weeks and 1 day and i have gained 12 pounds as of my last appt. Last week. And my Dr says my weight gain is looking beautiful so i would definitely say your Dr. Is crazy.

  • It is not healthy to gain under 10lbs for a whole pregnancy! Any sane doctor will tell you that no matter what weight you are you should be gaining at LEAST 10lbs!
  • I started at 242 and was down to 232 at 16 weeks, I'm back up to 238 now at 20 weeks, and I have mentioned weight to my Dr and she just tells me she'll let me know if there's a problem. That is one of the reasons I LOVE my doctor. So many Dr's anymore blame everything on being overweight... your tooth hurts well you need to lose weight! I would have been upset too!! Just try to eat as healthy as possible and don't stress over everything you put in your mouth. It hurts so much for me to move around exercise so isn't happening, but the pool at our apartment makes me feel good and helps burn off some calories too!! :-)
  • That doctor is insane.. screw him.. who said you had to make him happy? :-?
  • I'm thankful for everyone s response. Its hard to juggle 2 boys a pregnancy and being told not to gain anymore weight. I think it is a very unrealistic goal. Everybody that has ever been pregnant knows that it is. I hope I can some how manage to do this without stressing myself out about it
  • @mommyoftwoprincesses when you are overweight to start with, there are different weight guidelines...so depending on how much overweight, some pregnant women are asked to gain 0 to 15 lbs. (I don't even consider myself that overweight, and I'm not supposed to gain anything.) Usually, pregnant women buy into the "eating for two" myth, but you need to eat regular sized, healthy meals and the baby helps your body stay at the same size by burning extra calories.

It sucks to hear it from your doctor, but I think it's a good thing she was willing to give you tips to be healthier, instead of ignoring the issue.
  • @laura536 I've always seen the pregnancy guidelines say overweight/obese women are still supposed to gain 10-15lbs to be healthy but every doctor is different :)

  • Sorry extra post
  • All I'm saying is that it is an added stress that no woman needs. Anybody that is overweight knows what they should or shouldn't be doing. I live a active life and eat well. Unfortunately I'm the type that if I'm not killing myself at the gym and starving myself I'm not going to lose weight especially pregnant

That doesn't even make any sense. How could you not gain anymore weight. In your last month isn't the baby suppose to put on a half pound to a pound a week. So of course you will be gaining weight. Smdh
