Nursing home or assistant livings?

edited June 2011 in Pregnant
Does anyone work in one while bein prego or had worked there while prego? I work at a assistant living but its more like a nursing home because they take anyone they can get money from.. I am 6 months prego and I am constanly on my feet, walking and bending gettine people dressed and also lifting people.. By the middlr of the day my back and legs are killing me. I want to go on maternity leave now but im not sure my dr will give me a note. And I also need the money. Has anyone else went through this?

  • I stopped at 5 months but u shouldnt be lifting anyone do u not have hoists n slide sheets cause thats terrible manual handling if u dont. I know in australia there is a no lift policy
  • I worked in a memory care center before I got pregnant and was having those same problems. My doctor put me on a 25 lbs weight restriction. I ended up having to take medical leave.
  • The people I lift assit in sitting standing etc.. But sometimes they do loose their balance and I have to put in the extra oomf... I told my dr this during the begining of my pregnancy and he basically told me that I can do everything I did when I was prego.. Im scared to ask him for a note I dont want to sound like a winey baby
  • Just ask him for a note tell him your in so much pain after work and stressed out that you do not feel good and you feel that you need to slow down. Hope things get better for you

  • It doesnt bother u working that long?
  • I work in a nursing Home but I'm the late night shift so I'm not constantly on my feet like you. But my job told me because I haven't been there for a year they won't pay me for my leave in October when I have my baby.
  • I work at a hospital, I am a unit secretary, so I just sit at the desk, but I have seen plenty of nurses and aides work up until they delivered. If your body is already used to working that hard, being on your feet and lifting and pulling people, then your body can do it while pregnant. Most of the nurses had other people help with moving people so as not to hurt themselves. I would just ask your doctor, but don't get your hopes up.
  • @ashleyfew girl who u tellin im taking summer classes so I can still get mine and I'm thinking about picking up a minor and doing those claes online because I need that money!!!! Lol
