  • My son sleeps better if he's swaddled tight. I never gave my kids cereal that early. I was told they can spit up and choke on it. Is he up crying or just up? @nicksmommy
  • Baby could just have days and nights confused. I wouldn't suggest cereal that young though. Newborns have very sensitive digestive systems.
  • My daughter recently stopped sleeping during the day but she does well at night when I shower her
  • I had the same problem. Lil man just wouldn't settle at night. My friend got me johnsons bedtime baby bath and bedtime baby wash. It's got nice stuff in it which calms and sooths. Most nights he sleeps pretty well and when he doesn't sleep hes still really calm and just cuddles up with me.
  • I ussualy go to bed late like 10 11 or 12, so my trick was to give them a bath at like 9:45 pm give them some formula that keep them longer that breastmilk and put the crib under the cealing fan (sorry spell) the baby is done sleeping another trick once the baby hit the month old I try to keep baby awake since 5pm until bed time maybe a 20mins nap but no more belive me work
  • You shouldn't give a newborn cereal.. bathe the baby right before bed the bedtime lavender baby wash is good I used it with my first. Swaddle him (not too tight) tighter up top and looser at th legs that helped my son. what about a pacifier?
  • Okay so I've been reading reviews about these n everyone states that it really helps their newborn sleep..."the first years sounds for silence nursery sound machine" and/or "womb sounds bear." They hav both at Target for around 20 bucks. Read the reviews, esp for the sound machine n they sound promising it will help baby sleep n that its recommended for babies w difficult sleeping patterns :) I put them both on my baby registry. B sure to let me kno if u get it n it works! :)
  • Don't give the baby cereal that young!!! They may be going through a growth spurt, just nurse or feed them more. Massage them w the nighttime baby lotion. Stay calm so they don't get upset. Only advice I have.

  • my nurse actually said to do this thank you very muchh..

@nicksmommy theres a thread a while back called "can I give my newborn gerber baby rice", if that helps some other people posted about experiences and what not.my sons never satisfied with formula so thats why he wakes up so much. He will eat 4 to 6 oz and still be hungry. Talk to the peditrician though he/she may have other ways to get your LO to sleep. Good luck.

Some babies have to have cereal put in their bottles due to reflux problems, but you shouldn't do it unless consulting your pediatrician or nurse. Usually its very little, just to help weigh formula down so they keep it down. Around a tsp every 2oz, but like I said that's by pediatricians orders and some also do it when a baby eats excessive amounts without being satisfied. Anyways, to answer your question, what seemed to always help my first who is 17 months and my almost 3 week old now is start a bedtime routine. Bath every night with bedtime bath, lotion them up with bedtime lotion, and when they are under a year, a nice warm bottle every night, then a tight swaddle and in bed :) that's what I do at least. My first was sleeping through the night at 5 weeks and my 3 week old sleeps from 11pm to around 4:30am then from 5am to 9am. I swear by the bedtime bath and lotion. Since both of them were born, I haven't missed one bath. I make sure its every night! Also having box fan running in the room seems to help as well, they are soothed by that noise. :) hope this helps.

  • If he slept 930-5 thats pretty good! I hope i get that lucky lol. Have you tried also that lavender lotion and washes.. its the soothing aroma thing i guess
  • @MommyOfTwoPrincesses I also heard that bathing them everynight helps them sleep so I have been doin that and about the rice in the formula does it really help the babies food stay down?? My daughter tends to spit up Sooo much
  • I have the same routine as modt bath them every night lotion up give him a bottle in.a dimmed quiet room he is 9wks tom & he sleeps from abt 930 to 5 or 6 wakes up eat goes back to.sleep til 10
  • I did Gerber rice cerial just a little to make it thicker, swaddling, boat rides, swing, put him in stroller n went 4xing in back yard he loved it! Also sit on edge of couch lay him w head on knees put together cup your hands under his head n gently rock so his body n head rocking side to side softly there is a video somewhere that teaches you this its called happiest baby on the block. It worked great!

  • @dncrcass I've never had a problem with my 17 month olds skin at all same with my 3 week old but everyone is different hun. I've never been told it was bad either. In my personal experiences is routines are key, and in a routine the same thing should be done every night so that's why I've done a bath every night since the day they were born :) but like I said hun, everyone is different!
@grissy_barria yes it does help. If its excessive spit up or projectile vomiting, talk to your pediatrician about doing it and about possible reflux. Like I said its VERY little added but it makes a difference and is sometimes needed. :)
@may1mommatobe that's the same routine I have! It works GREAT! Except right now she's sleeping from about 10:30 sometimes 11 until 4:30 then eats and goes back to sleep until around 9am when her sister wakes up. :) she's just under 3 weeks old now. I did the same with my first and she slept through the night starting at 5 weeks and she's now 17 months and has always slept through the night since :)

@dncrcass use the nighttime bath and lotion, and if she has hair, lavender shampoo works great too. I always make sure to do a nice calm massage with the lotion after the bath and if you're formula feeding, have the bottle warm and feed her in a calm, quiet, dim room. Then a nice tight swaddle after she's burped and ready for bed. :)
  • I tried the bedtime j&j after reading here it helps and its great I loved it she sleeped from 10 to 4 feed her and sleeped again till 8
