Pica

edited June 2011 in Health
Sooo, just figured it out... I have pica :-S
My Husband doesn't believe me... :-W
In the same respect he didn't believe half the things I told him I have been going through this entire pregnancy. He's had the moodswings and I have had to just suck it up (leaving me no chance nor space to freely experience my first-time mommy-to-be experience); but this is not about him.
Let's get back to me and pica. Not to worry (I hope) ladies; I found out via internet research, I have Paphogia Pica. I only crave crushed or resturaunt ice. I don't have any urges to ingest dirt, laundry detergent, chalk or paint chips... Just ice chips.
I think I have pica of the olfactory system, if there is even such a thing. I get a "guilty pleasure" high for the smell of industrial laundry. =P~
It's a high I could only imagine is similar to a fiend's crack high...
I also LOVE the smell of Clorox bleach. By the way, some one should sue Gain. Pregnancy did NOT bring on any fondness for Gain, in fact I become physically ill at the scent of Gain [sorry about the Gain rant]. :-)

Is anyone else suffering from pica? Have any insight about pica? LOL...anything at all to share...?

  • @ahendricks09 Has chewing ice had any negative effects, at all? I have only been doing it for a little over a week. I am kind of afraid it may have a negative effects... I haven't done a lot of research; but one said "as long as it's not toxic substances, there's no need to stop". :-??
  • @TheSmilingBeauty ive been told that it can be bad for your teeth but i haven't had any problems..
