Used Car Seat - Input PLEASE :)

I KNOW ther can be issues with used car seats.. Expiration date and unsure of it ever being in a wreck before.. BUT, since we live in NYC, we don't have a car (sad, cause I miss my car!) so, I've been contemplating getting one from craigslist or freecycle, I see them often. It would be nice to save the money, and 'most' covers are washable, and I'm sure replaceable. I do really want a certain one from Wal-mart, Safety 1st brand cause it has really high ratings and is reallly cute for my little girl.. But Again, I wouldn't mind saving $89. The only time it will be in a car, is the taxi ride home from the hospital, and I will be sure to ask if it is expired.

For transportation, we use the bus or train, that's it. And neither have a certain spot for just car seats to be strapped down.

So, with all that said.. Input?

    i dont know about ny but here in cali they have a carseat instruction class you can go to and they give you like 60$ twards a new carseat so you end up paying alot less.. i would not get a used carseat.. pretty much anything else you can get used but the carseat i just wouldnt take my chances..

    @kristaf22 we take the bus for grocery shopping, so I would be carrying it. And the train for appointments, it would be in the snap n go (well for shopping to)

    It will most likely never be strapped in a car again after the ride home from the hospital. I'm not even going to use it after 6 mo of age.

    @lae I will look into that! I really do want the new one, especially since she is my first, but I wont be using it in a car, but by NY law, I still have to have one to take her home.

    If you aren't going to be using it in a car, then I'm sure a used one would be fine. Just try to make sure to get one that is in very good condition and not expired.

    @lae I googled, and didn't see such a thing :/ I just saw where you can go to a place and they will tell you if its properly installed and such. But thanks anyway!

    Here you can rent them from the hospital. Maybe you could see if you could rent one from the hospital and save money

    $50 is a good deal! I just want to buy a new cover for mine but can't find one for less than $85!

    I know! I looked at covers, and was like damn... might as well buy the car seat I want. lol

    I will PROBABLY end up buying the one I want, but I'm still gunna discuss it with the bf (i'm sure he'll root for the used cheaper one, lol)
