social networking out of control...

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
I can see how facebook could be a vice for companies in advertising and whatnot but I had to delete mine. Holy moly the stupid shit people put online about their personal lives is rediculous! Its like high school on the internet... not to mention can cause numerous problems in relationship. Anyone else hating on the silliness of fb?

  • Agreed. FB was initally set up for very large colleges and my school was on of the first on it. Back then it was so awesome, but now its way too commericalized and drives me nuts!
  • I hate it. But I love love love Facebook to keep in touch with family & pregly friends even though all my family members on Facebook have a pregly because their pregnant. But yeah..
  • If people weren't so tell all then it probably be so bad but I'm I will tell you... I live in a small town and news travels fast to start, with fb its instantaneously!
  • I agree that there is way too much advertising and personal information available. On a positive note though, it is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends, especially those who are out of town.
  • Without a doubt it is a good way to keep in touch but to be honest I always enjoyed a letter. Yea its old school so to speak but far more personal and there's far more anticipation... in a hurry I could text lol
  • I've never had a Facebook. I wouldn't dare. I know a lot of my old friends try to find me on it but if They wanted they could text me! Ever since I felt like MySpace was more a pedophilia site I've refused to get on a social network besides twitter. Plus I've seen it ruin so many relationships w all kinds drama! Its not worth it
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I could not agree more! I am only on fb because I have family all across the country who it's impossible to keep in contact with otherwise. But I HATE it with a passion & would never use it otherwise... and I know exactly what you mean about the small town gossip; I live in a town of 25k people & was treated to one of my husbands' cousins telling the world on fb that he & his wife aren't working out & he's tired of being married to her... I would never post something that personal on there!!!
  • I love facebook its a great way to keep in touch with family and friends who have moved away. Also found family I have never met on there its great :-)
  • I've never even created a facebook account! I had a myspace in middle school and deleted after about 2 years because the drama was beeeyond stupid!
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Facebook is fine as long as you understand how to use the privacy settings & don't accept every single person as a friend. In my opinion lol
  • I also love Facebook for the fact of my family. I have lots of cousins in Iraq and afghan in the army and the only way we communicate is through facbook. My husband blocked everything so nobody only my friends can view my information but I have seen drama on there and personal fights posted I'm there its like nobody needs to know your stuff lol

I agree totally with mama_kat its not facebooks fault that people like 2 tell all there business on there. If u dont like them telling there business delete them off ur page. I think its a great way 2 keep in touch with family
  • ive noticed all ur problems isnt actually about facebook its self its about the people u let on ur page.
  • Its not always the people on your page but people on other peoples pages. People hear something and it spreads like wildfire. Its not difficult to hack fb and or just use someone else fb in order to access information. I don't knock people on fb but not everyone has the best intentions sometimes proving to be high school all over again! I graduated many a year ago I'm over the childish things... that's why I'm husband and I both deleted our pages and its been a great relief to not to read everyones drama. Its nice for family to keep in touch but other than that I don't need it.
