i breastfed my first but i had to supplement formula as well as i wasnt producing enough to fill him up...it worked for me but i exclusively pumped and bottle fed so im not sure about problems with latching...i did that for 8 weeks and he was perfectly fine
@kalasthename thats my problem too im not givin him enough :(and I been pumping n bottle feeding it wrks a lot better for me n this way hubby can help!
It really depends on the baby and how it takes it...I did both for my son and he was fine while my friend tried the same thing and her baby would not take formula just milk. great luck!
I breastfed and used similac with iron with all 4 of my sons! And plan on doing it again this time around. I never could get my sons to actually latch on so I rented a dual breast pump from my hospital which worked wonders :-) I would pump every hour and give them similac until I got my supply up once my supply was good they only had breast milk for about 6 months and the back to similac
I have been doing both since the hospital.(bottle of formula or expressed milk) and the only problem I've encountered is her not taking the bottles if they're not warm enough.
@mama_busy_bee dont feel bad, I gave Karsyn one too. Also givin him strictly formula now. I have no milk. It never came with my last two either but I did try, and it hurt sooooo bad.. Your not a bad mommy for stopping if you decide to.
@mama_busy_bee don't give up. It sucks and its hard, but it gets better I promise. I am not trying to be pushy just suportive. Cuz so many women give up cuz it sucks so bad the first week. But it just keeps getting easier I promise.
I really wanted to bf. She did the 1st week. I feel sooo bad... i still squeeze and milk comes out. But i dont know if pumping produces more. She is nipple confused and i quit on her. But if I could go bak i would she turns 1 mnth today. Any suggestions?
@betty don't worry pumping and putting it in bottles is perfectly fine. Try bottles specially meant for best feeding. Like the breast flow or something along those lines. Then just try to slowly introduce the breast.
@karla_with_a_k@Krazymomofadrian Well she lost 9% of her body weight...still no milk but she is latching better....but they still want me to suppliment with a bottle with each feeding. I am still holding on, i did spend 200 on a pump after all...ugh. i tried pumping when we got discharged today, just to see what comes out since she was sleeping. last night i tried hot rags and she seemed more satisfied. It is definitely not easy! I also hate how its ackward with company cuz im still sucky at positioning. I have to take her in tommorrow cuz her weight.
I did both with both my kids. I really don't know why I started with the first when I was producing more than enough. But I bf up until my daughter was a year. My second was just plum greedy and I had to give both and I stoles BF him at 6 months.
