Any other plus sized mommys to be?

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
Ive always been plus sized and slightly insecure about my weight. Now that im pregnant, im scared that im going to be bigger than a house. Is it possible to diet while pregnant?

  • I was overweight when I was expecting my second. I didn't diet but I only gained 13 pounds with him. There's a book I read named something like "carrying a little extra" that was really informative. I just recently saw it in the expecting isle at Borders:)
  • I'm plus-sized, too, and please do not diet while pregnant!! It's not healthy and not recommended. However, it IS possible to avoid nasty, fatty foods & eat at your healthiest while pregnant, which will benefit you both. A woman only needs to eat an extra 300-350 calories a day while preggers, & if those are healthy calories, & not like a milkshake for example, it'll be even better for you & baby. I'm 21 weeks pregnant & actually lost a few pounds & haven't yet gained a thing. For now, focus on eating the best & healthiest you possibly can, & worry about stricter diets & exercise plans after your baby is born.

And keep your head up. We may not be a size 2, but we're still beautiful women. Congratulations!! :)
  • Absolutely. I call it the baby diet. I've been large all my life, too, but i actually lose weight during all of my pregnancies. I eat for the baby. Really healthy food, and lots of it. I drink water, juice, and milk instead of soda all day, and walk regularly. I also do some yoga for expectant mothers. All in all, i just take better care of myself. I lost 30 pounds with my first, gained most of it back during the pregnancy, and left the delivery room 5 pounds under my prepregnancy weight. 20 pounds with my daughter, so far 15 pounds with this one, im 22 weeks.
  • You ladies are wonderful! Thank you for your input. Ive been eating plenty of fruits amd juices, veggies have never been my thing, but ive been trying them! As of right now, I cant tolerate the smell of any type of meat, im hoping this changes soon!
  • Ive been plus size all my life and noe that Im prego I've actually lost some weight because I'm eating healthier and drinking water juice and milk. But its not recommended to diet its not healthy for the baby, how far along are u?
  • @christina how far along are you??? I am too a plus size mom to be and have the same issue but i am 9 weeks and have not gained any weight yet!!! For my son I gained 40 pounds but this time around I'm trying to make healthier choices!!!
  • Im 8 weeks today, I dont think I gained any weight yet. I dont actually own a scale Lol but im going to buy one and keep track of my progress. I just wonder if im going to have,a regular baby belly like everyone else since im already big, ya know?
  • @Christina - I wondered the SAME thing! And up until recently, I didn't really look bigger or pregnant, just the same. But over the past 3 weeks, I definitely am getting a typical preggo belly. You can really tell. Plus, she's kicking me like crazy! :) I'm sure the same will happen to you.
  • @Christina don't diet it ain't. Good for you or the little one. I too have always been bigger but w all my pregnancies i lost weight. That is the one time in my lift that losing weight has happened. Granted i always put it back on afterwards but that's okay.
  • Im overweight and really short. 28wks and 3 days and only gained 3lb maybe 4. And I do have the baby bump. With the right cloths u can really look preggo lol ut just enjoy it we are all beautiful even though I feel like a whale! Lol
  • I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and have lost 5 pounds! I'm also diabetic, so apparently this is normal to lose up to 7 pounds.. but defo do not diet..

Im overweight and my Dr told me he only wanted me to gain 15lbs max ,at my second appointment (14weeks)i had gained 7 lbs.. I havent been weighed since then........now I am 27 weeks and I was freeking out that I was gaining too much well....i found out today I lost 24lbs !!!!!I was shocked ive been eating pretty healthy lots of fruit and veggies...less sugery foods and lots of water w\a lemon slice in it.Also I lost my car so I walk alot more. My baby is doing awesome he had perfect text book weight all along...i get ultrasounds every month thats how I know .I do not think you should diet while prego, but depending on how overweight you are you should watch that you dont gain too much. It will make labor much easier. And at anyweight you should try to eat healthy....good luck everyone with your pregnancys :)
