Seafood.

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
My doctor isn't very informative. And I an looking for Another. But I Was told to stay away from most sea food but he also said there was some that have lower mercury counts and could be eatin in moderation. I have been craving seafood so bad but haven't touched any since I've been pregnant. Does anyone know what ones are safe or What ones to definitely stay away from?

  • I have eaten shrimp, crab, canned tuna and fish (flounder, whiting, talipa) my entire pregnancy but I have limited my intake to 2 times per week..my doc stated that what I was doing was fine..I do know u can't any raw seafood (sushi etc.) And to watch the type of fish you eat...like no shark bc that is really high in mercury. I am 38 wks and everything has been perfect and remains perfect with my lil lady (knock on wood)!
  • I know salmon is low in murcury so its safe to eat. This is my first so I'm not to sure about anything but I get the impression the sea food itself isn't bad, just the high levels of mercury. Good luck with your quest to have the craving fulfilled lol :)

I had lobster, catfish, and shrimp this weekend. Actually I don't think that was very smart. Thank God everything was okay on my ultrasound today! (I'm 9 weeks). There are certain seafoods they tell you to stay away from completely. Only thing I can remember off top of my head is shark. I was told to limit tuna to no more than 2 servings per week. Fish is a very healthy and important part of your diet so try to eat at least a little every now and then.
  • Just stay away from shark and too much tuna...Google it and ull get a complete list
