edited July 2011 in Babies
Crying! I've fed her, changed her, rocked her, put her in the swing, tried a pacifier and nothing is working. :( my aunt said it may be colic? How can I know and what will help her.......im already crying along with her.

  • My newborn did that. Come to find out it was because we changed her formula. After we went to the original one she was happy. Cried day and night for a whole week
  • How old is she and have you tried gripe water?
  • @kayleigh27 She's 10 days. I breastfeed and she gets formula rarely. She had some yesterday....idk if it made her gassy. What's gripe water

  • It sounds like colic. A gassy baby is a unhappy baby. I recommend the gripe water too, my daughter had colic and it helped her in about 2 days!! I really hope it gets better :) congratulations on the baby girl btw
  • Gas drops do not work AT ALL!! Im going to try Gripe water tonight. She's been crying all day and I don't know what to do. I feel so bad cause I can't help her :( and all the crying is making her already swollen nose worse. The only thing that calms her down and keeps her calm is me nursing her. I can't keep her on my boobs all day long. She hasn't pooped in over 24 hours either. Im thinking its def an upset tummy
  • Try white noise, like your hair dryer or vacuum I have read that helps?
  • do you think she is getting enough to eat? sorry not trying to be rude or say you don't know what your doing. just thought i'd ask my nephew was like that and come to find out he wasn't getting enough to eat
  • @ChelseaMarie we run a fan....still crying. :/

@3rd_bumps_a_charm I thought that at first, but I leak milk like crazy and she is a crazy strong sucker. Im quite positive she's eating enough...but when I bring her to doc Wednesday if not sooner im asking
  • Hmm, Jaden had a day like this last week. (20days old) i gave him a paci, held him real close while I walked around the house. It stopped his crying. I believe sometimes they just need to comfort themselves by sucking.
  • my first was colicy and i think it was cause i nuresed and bf.. i dont know.. i like the mylocon
  • aww hopefully your able to soothe her, maybe skin to skin contact? idk sorry i'm no help :(
  • @Jaime77 @lae3 @3rd_bumps_a_charm
we've done the walking, bouncing, walking fast, patting butt/back, rubbing tummy. Calms her for a few. And the pacifier does work....again for a few minutes. Maybe an hour. Once she figures out nothing is coming out she's madder then before. I've gotten her completely nakie and fed her, held her, tried napping. :/ I just bought gripe water and gave it to her. She's finally asleep after being awake since this morning. Also bought fenugreek for my milk supply. Im a ftm so im so lost. I feel like im a bad mom :(
  • Your not bad hun your a great mom! I'm sure Michelle Duggar has days like this too. Glad she's resting!
  • aww your not a bad mom at all, sounds like you've tried everything and your doing your best :) hopefully the gripe water helped
  • @Jaime77 @3rd_bumps_a_charm well I mean I know im not, but I can't help but feel like I am. Doing everything I can and nothing helps. Hoping the gripe water works! Also have to talk to doc about her nose. Its so swollen she ends up gasping for air! :(
  • You are not a bad mom... It takes a while to learn the cries and what your baby is trying to tell you.

Some of the crying might be due to over stimulation. If you feel like you have done everything possible, just swaddle her and put her to bed with the lights off. Let her cry for a few minutes.... Give yourself a chance to walk away and catch your breath and go back if she's still crying after like 10 min.

You are doing great! I sure hope you are getting some rest or "you" time now that she is asleep.

  • Well I actually went through the exact same thing a few days ago. My son cried all day he would only sleep at night for maybe an hour at a time. I was so exhausted the next day. He wouldn't sleep during the day except maybe little 5 minute naps here and there. He was fine as long as he was on my boob nursing but like you said they can't stay in all day. I too am raking fenugreek too. No side effects. I did gas drops, gripe water, and that didn't do too much for him. Swaddling did seem to help a bit but he finally got past whatever it was. Although he's been a bit fussy today. Remember to be careful of what you eat & drink that can make them gassy & fussy. Also she could have acid reflux. Try elevating her mattress just a little so after she eats she's not laying completely flat whether its on her side it back. If she keeps up then check with her doctor to see what else could be troubling her. Rest when you can and try to be calm even though its hard. Your doing great. My baby will be 3 weeks tomorrow and its baby #5 and each one is different. :)
  • Dont feel
Bad its tough.. You really should try the mylecon if the gripe water doesnt work
  • I think it's because if the formula. If she is not used to getting it that could be the problem. Do you have somebody that can take over for awhile?
  • Adrian is stubborn and wants to be held constantly or she yells out or cries. It's hard, I'm a first time mom too. She won't let me do anything. Even picking up my phone to post this is getting ridiculous. lus we are
  • Plus we are in the process of moving and I have alot to do. It is so frustrating.
  • Have you tried swaddling her? Maybe if you swaddle while breastfeeding, she'll get used to suckling while swaddled and you can switch her to a pacifier and be able to put her down for a nap.
  • thanks everyone. I got the gripe water and gave it to her. She calmed down in ten mins. SHE FINALLY POOPED. I've never been so excited about poo lol. I think formula upset her stomach way too much. She ruined her pretty yellow outfit. I feel so much better and im so happy she's content. Now to get her to sleep. Hopefully tomorrow she wont be acting the same, if so I know its something besides formula. She hasn't had any today so well see. Thank you guys so friggin much. Everyone in my family hasn't been around a baby in forever so they aren't much help. :D
  • @KrazymomofAdrian Ik what you mean. Everytime I have food and am about to take that first bite she screams! Or when I think she's asleep and sneak away to pee lol. And yes thank god my husband is around. I've had to just hand her to him and go cry it out and gather myself.I've never held a baby or anything before her so EVERYTHING is new to me. I've never even babysat
  • Oh wow I grew up around babiesmy mom did daycare and I have a 13 year old brother and an 8 year old sister. Adrian finally fell asleep but I am on pregly neglecting my duties lol. She fights sleep and won't take a pacifier only her thumb so I can't give her that comfort. Ql I hope you get some relief. When she is not tired she is such a happy baby, but she is so needy. But you gotta love them. How old is yours now?
