question about, well my boobs lol

edited July 2011 in Health
So I knew since I wasn't breast feeding my milk would still come in and be painful.

But its only coming in on my left breast. Is this normal? My right is still the same as always, I can tell there's no milk. But my left is huge, horribly sore, and leaking.

Just wondering if this is normal. Also, does anyone have any good tips on how to deal with engorgement and how to dry my girls up quickly? I can't even lay my baby on my shoulder to burp him cause my boon hurts so bad lol

Thanks! :)

  • Don't know bout the milk in one boob but keep a bra on at all times except showering, when showering don't let the water hit them. I think putting cabbage on them helps but not 100% about that one.
  • I haven't had the one boob issue, but to dry up quickly avoid ALL breast stimulation, avoid letting warm water from the shower as @mrs_shu mentioned. Also wrap them with an ace bandage or wear a tight sports bra. I've heard that putting chilled cabbage leaves on them relieves them a little, but I've never tried it. I have put wet wash cloths in the fridge and laid them across my chest... It was WONDERFUL! Good luck!
  • Ive noticed the same thing with me. Ive ony started leaking on the left.
  • @Jessica_Clayton me personally im chosing to breast feed but my family lives by the cabbage method. Buy a cabbage place the GREEN leaves on ur breast then put on a sports bra wear. It all day. Should dry up in 1 to 3 days.

  • Yeah that happened to me. With my last pregnancy my right book got huge and I got milk out of it, my left didn't. Even When I wore a bra it was so noticeable. I had to put two socks in my left side of my bra just to even it out. I couldn't pump on that side or anything. It got so annoying I just stopped breast feeding and put cabbage in my bra and let it soak up. It sucked! Lol

  • i always bf.. so i dont know.. i do know that its normal to be uneven .. cause i was .. even though i nursed.. so im sure its normal.. i would say were pads .. and a fitting bra.. it helps.. cause if the weight is weighin down it hurts worse.. and it would be okay if you took a warm bath or shower to sooth the pain and express a lil out.. just for comfort.. manually expressing is easy..
  • just remembered baths are a nono now sorry.. but a warm shower none the less
  • @jamiesandefur: so the cabbage workes? I've been doing ice packs and haven't so much as accidentally brushed against them in fear of stimulating them lol. But my lefty is still killing me! My right is filling up a little now, but not much at all. Barely even painful. I just want them to fall off lol ;)

@lae3: actually I was told to take at least 2 very warm baths a day to help with my swelling down there. But I was told by nurse not to let warm water hit them and to absolutely not stimulate them or try to express milk. But thank you for your advice anyway :)
  • U can express a lil mine engorged after I stoped bf my son.. Im not talking about makin a 4 oz bottle lol
  • dont let any of the milk out with warm water cuz they will just fill back up!! Use the cabbage and u can also wrap your boobs with an ace bandage you want them snug. Tight bras shirts and what not it only took me 2 days to get them down after my daughter, however this time i fully intend to breastfeed good luck!!!
  • You can go to a heathfood store and get no more milk tea. Crunch the cabbage like a piece of paper before putting it on your boob.
  • Yep the cabbage works. It dried mine up within 2-3 days.
