Advice/tips for ftms during labor&delivery

edited July 2011 in Giving birth
Ftm here and need some advice/tips as to what to expect during labor and childbirth...what helped to get other mommas through it? Im scared to death as I have obviously never experienced it before...i am doing a natural birth no epi and I will NOT be changing my mind. The thought of an epidural scares me more than labor itself...anyone have advice as to dealing with the pain? Best positions to be in? Ways to focus on pushing? What was the worst or hardest part for you? Please help ladies:)

  • I read a book that Said... if you go into labor expecting the worst it will be ..if you go in calm you will b fine!
Also keep in mind *each push and contraction your baby is closer to being here and then the pain wont mean anything ;;)
Im going to go natural too! Im a ftm.
N I CAN'T WAIT to tell everyone that said I couldn't go natural that I did after im done having my son!! :)
    I have oodles of motivation!
  • @jay_brad ty! And yes people saying what we can and cant do is ridiculous..i cant do a needle in my spine :/...and lol I need to borrow some of yours I have been worry free but now that im 36 weeks im getting a little scared:(
  • I've learned from classes not to tense up during the contractions because tending up makes the pain worse. And if you don't breathe right, can also make more pain for yourself. Breathe however makes you feel relaxed even if its a funny way.
  • I heard sour apple hard candy increases ur pain tolerance .. lol I mean hey if it works woo! But if not at least u gave some yummy suckers :)
  • @excitedforbaby I wish I could take classes but work, family, and preparing for baby is taking all my time. where did you go for classes?
  • @jay_brad hmmm like warheads?

  • @mshahir thank you:))) i hope I could still try that. Im so damn big that reaching far enough to shave is a huge accomplishment lol
  • Well the advice I wish I would have got was you can be in labor for more hours if you would like and u can deny the c section. I only got to be in labor twelve hrs I was already 6 cm and the doc didn't let me go any further. She told me I was having a c section my baby was fine and I was dialating but she wanted to get it over with. I later found out that I could have said no. My cousin was in labor 18 hrs and everything went smoothly some people just need more time ugh I hated the c section
  • Just a random post so I can easily find this thread later. I am also a first timer.
  • Don't expect ur birth plan to be flawless. Most likely it won't go as planned. So be open to changes.

Relax and do what feels best for u.

Do ur kegals to get ur vagina ready and more elastic so less need of being cut or torn.
  • @STEVENJSALAS_mommy I had no idea you could deny one either is there a specific number of hours when they can force a csec? And im sorry drs. can be extremely insensitive:(
  • @kennedymonroe11 yeah you can and I mean as long as there are no risks to ur baby hey take your time. But as soon as you get ur water poped you have to deliver within 24 hrs I think. My doctor had been on call since the night before so she had not got any sleep so she decided that she wanted to go home. And I am the one who had to suffer. I could not even carry my son much I would still try though

  • @homebirthadvocate do you have any advice?
  • @STEVENJSALAS_mommy Can I ask why u hated the c.section so much? Was it just against ur birth plan or was it that u couldn't hold ur son afterwards?
  • Well ur in pain alot! I couldn't get up to go pee I needed help from my husband for everything. And I couldn't walk didn't want to eat ugh and my cut hurt sooo much its not even funny @NewMomInSept

I went all natural ,not by choice tho, i was induce due to b over due, 41 weeks cervix close ,not dilated nothin ,no contraction no signs of labor at all, so i start my cervidl at 11:40pm by 4.20am i was 6cm so they took me to the delivery room ,i ask for an epidural but sadly by the time that they got done asking me so so many questions(health history related) so they tryin to get a room.ready ,its already 5 am my water broke, i felt so much pressure that i could even move ,had so much pain that i thought i was gonna die, they checked me again i was 10cm fully dilated ,anasteciologi wasnt there yet, so they told me i have no time for an epidural, they told me to start pushing, i was so scare ,i told them no no ,i dnt want 2 but my body was pushing her out, i felt her head coming out i saw her hair n i pushed for 10 min n she was out , so so so painful to go natural .. im a ftm @kennedymonroe11
  • @homebirthadvocate I have just one other question the only medication I am considering is demerol...can you tell me more about it, does it affect the baby in anyway? Thank you:) you give awesome advice:)
  • @vanessa_mom2b did the pain stop or ease up after she was born? How was your recovery?
  • It did stop after she was out but then i started to feel pain because i tear from my pee pee hole n from my back i got 6 stiches n they hurt ,im telling u they hurt , but after that i was in pain for 5-6 days then i was fine no pain =] mayb a lil sore but i was able to walk n do lil things in the house @kennedymonroe11

The contraction were painful but after my water broke they were even worse, they were like 20 seconds apart i felt pressure in my butt like i had to go number 2 , i had my daughter an hour after my water broke , a good thing its that i was in labor only for 6 hours . All i can say is try to relax n breathe @kennedymonroe11
  • Do not lay down! Walk untill you have to push. I had my daughter natural and it helped a lot. When you get a contraction stop and breathe through it and keep on walking. Demerol isn't a natural birth and it does affect the baby. @homebirthadvocate you are exactly right. My first childs birth was natural and i loved it. My second was csection and was very traumatizing. I will have more children but after the birth of my son i'm very scared to go through that again.
  • @vanessa_mom2b wow thank you for giving your story...i hate when things are sugar coated lol. So in your opinion what was the hardest part? You said you felt like you were dying, was that the contractions?
