jealous that i dont live in america

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
A huge amount of people on this forum live in America and I keep reading stories of baby showers (although I'm not 100% on what they are) delicious sounding.foods and great cheap places for clothes and baby things. The UK is so expensive, I just bought a maternity shirt and it was twenty quid (about $15) and it wasn't anything special lol. I think I'm gonna move lol x

  • Baby showers are a party somone makes for you. They invite your family and friends have food and drinks. The family and friends usually bring you gifts for the baby like clothes or items such as swings cribs highchairs bouncy chairs etc....
  • Ah thanks, we definitely don't do that here. It sounds so much fun. :-)
  • A baby shower is like a big party for women that u have in honor of the new mommy and everyone brings a gift from a baby registry list that the mom makes at a particular store she likes. Its just an excuse for us bastard americans to have a party and get gifts!!! Lol!
  • lol $15 for a maternity shirt is still cheap here.
  • @cheryl74 lots of my friends here in the uk have had baby showers, im also having one around 30w :)
  • Haha...never thought I'd hear someone be jealous of Americans :D
  • $15 for a maternity shirt is actually a really good deal!! The ones I've looked at are at least $25 and they're nothing special either, the really nice ones are around $50, so, its not really anything special to be living here, also you don't need to live here to have a baby shower, someone that loves/cares for you just need to throw you a baby party.
  • @MSC I keep reading about army and navy and things for 5 and 10 dollers. Lol. @BellaReust it sounds great. People here are boring. I have never come across anyone here having 1 x
  • @loubylou where in the UK are you? I'm down in devon and have never come across it. @katlilly yep I sure am, we actually had our first ever holiday booked for america when I found out I was pregnant. Now we have to put it back as I would've been 8 months pregnant. X
  • @cheryl74 lol Those are the people that have spouses in the military or they themselves are in the service - things are cheaper when buy on the base....but for us civilians...ha! We're talkin' $30 at least sometimes....
  • @MAC ah I see lol, I didn't put 2 and 2 together (prego brain) ol so were equal on clothes but that still leaves all the food lol x
  • Lol nothing special I'm telling you, why do you think that 75% of americans are obese and overweight? May be good tasting but most is not good for you lol!
  • Im from Liverpool :) you will have to orginise one, or get someone to do for you, its a laugh and you get lots of cute clothes, toys etc x
  • @keeshkeesh07 that made me laugh I know what you mean but I watch it on tv and all the tummy recipes on here and my stuff looks dull. And hell I can't stop eating at the mo lol x
  • @loubylou I will put it to friends and family :-)
  • You can throwone for.yourself and for the food we Americans don't have any foods from ourself we eat stuff from other countries and claim it as ours lolz so u could Google recipes or go out to eat... lolz... but like some one.said were all obese here so be careful what u eat

  • America is a great place to live. It's kind of nice to see someone say they're jealous of Americans instead of the usual "stupid Americans" comments :)
