military hospital

About to go crazy. This is venting. I called my insurances company (tricare) I want to switch from prime to standard. I dislike the doctor I saw. I told him about the car accident on my move here and he didn't even ask a question about it. I am sure the baby is fine but if he wasn't concerned enough to ask questions how a. I suppose to be comfortable with him deliverying my baby and my health. Also, I have not been checked for dilation anything. No ultrasounds since 17 weeks. Oh and the appointment lasted 10 minutes after I waited 30 minutes to be seen. I want a civilian doctor so bad. Plus I haven't heard one good thing about the obgyns department since I have been here. I am 33 weeks and not comfortable with my doctor and the lady I talked to today wouldn't switch me. Just kept saying " its better for you to stay on prime, and give birth at the military hospital" she doesn't know ne or my sistuation.

  • I know that you are frustrated, have you tried switching to a different OB at the military hospital? I know at my hospital (On Nellis AFB) we have quite a few OBs. Also the no ultrasound after 17 weeks is pretty standard unless there is a problem. I have not had one since my anatomy scan at 19 weeks. Also my OB has said that he wont start checking me for dialation until 37 weeks...so what you are describing sounds pretty standard. Now if you are dead set on switching to standard just call back tomorrow and if they hassel you then ask to speak to their supervisor....that lady probably just thought she was helping...
  • I see them next at 36 weeks. It is making me uncomfortable. The first time I went in the nurse I saw made everything seem so good. Then the following week I met the doctor and he rushed the appointment. I barely had the chance to tell him about the accident or ask questions.
  • I am not worried about the ultrasound really. But being checked out and the doctor concerns me. Really what doctor has no questions when you tell them you were in an accident. Its like he didn't hear me. Being checked bothers me because my first pregnancy I had many complications at the last 10 weeks between preterm labor, cord was wrapped around her next. I was on bed rest for half my pregnancy as well. Its just frustrating. I do know the lady was probably thinking it was better. But when I say I have thought about this I am positive I want to switch. That's not saying. I am not sure.
  • @2ndbutfirst Thank you. I have definitely tried making it work too, so it's not like I am being pushy or picky. I have called the doctors office and told them my concerns. I asked to see him sooner or a phone call to ask question and they said we will call you back but no call from him nor his nurse. I did how ever receive a call asking ne if I could switch my appointment to Sept. 16, I was about flipped out. My due date is Sept 21. Blah. Some doctors, nurse, office works make me angry. I have been polite this whole time. But if one more thing happens I think I might just go crazy on some of them
  • Before you decide to switch over, double check with the dr you want to switch to. A lot of doctors won't accept pregnant patients after a certain week. I switched drs at 20 weeks and I think her cutoff was at 24 weeks. Don't want you left without a doctor!
  • Thanks, I will ask the doctor I have spoken with if she has a cut off but I think she is excepting me.
  • Have you done your tour of l&d and mother baby unit yet? At the military hospital i go to you can opt for a midwife to deliver instead of the doctor you've been assigned.
  • Everytime I have asked for the tour, I am told they are to busy right now or the person showing you is at lunch. Its always something. I call everyday or go by after I drop my husband off at work or right before picking him up. The other parts of the hospital have been so great but the obgyn office has not been helpful.
