Baby Monitors....

edited July 2011 in Equipment & Supplies
I am looking for a baby monitor, preferably a baby video monitor with a HIGH RANGE. Does any one have ones that they have that they can recommend? That not only has high range but good video quality, sound and a talk back feature. Thanks

  • Be careful with the video monitors. Our news did a story on them a few months ago and if someone owns the same exact one they can see your baby from their home or car. There have been cases of people sitting in cars, driving around, and spying on babies using them.
There are some that have a certain "channel/wave" that makes it harder (can't think of the proper word or term) but it's still possible.
Shoot, wish I could remember what it was so that you knew it wouldn't be as easy to pick up someone else's channel...
  • @gatorbob yeah I heared summer brand was good, and it had the highest reviews. I am just concerned about the range, the baby will sleep in the room with us, but when she takes naps and I want to go in other parts of the house is what I am worried about.
@littleface yes I read that in some of the reviews that if someone in the neighborhood has the same monitor you can see their kids and vice verse....I wonder how far away you have to be for that not to happen. We live in an acreage neighborhood so the houses are pretty spread a part....I wonder if that would make a difference. I will have to look more into that. Thanks for the info.
  • Sorry @littlefae I tagged your name wrong, lol. I commented above.
  • @ash1la - lol that's ok
And I think with the bigger distance between the homes you should be fine. I know that when they did the story the reporter was sitting across the street from some homes and picking up babies and she even picked up a couple she couldn't locate. So it's hard to say.
  • I want a video monitor and I live in an apartment :( I'm kinda upset now.
  • @littlefae....ok. Thanks I am still researching to see what one has the higher complaints for that issue. I will let you know @babynumber02.
  • @ash1la - also... shoot I wish I could remember some of the newer ones are coming out and work on a certain channel that does make it harder for others to pick up on your baby, accident or not. I just wish I knew what they were.
  • @littlefae I think its the digital ones that have less interference and static. @babynumber02....the two I have narrowed it down to are Summer Infant Baby Touch Digital Color Video Monitor and Samsung Wireless Video Security Monitoring System w/ 3.5 LCD. Both of them have good reviews as well as a couple bad ones thrown in there. The Samsung one is cheaper at 169.00 compared to 205.94 ( on Amazon.com). The Samsung has more bells and whistles than the Summer brand but some of the complaints were the customer support for Samsung is almost non existent which is a huge negative!
  • Summer baby touch is great! 2 of my friends have it and I just got it in the mail, its not staticky at all...i recomend you order it from wallmart tho its only 213 compare to 280 from babies r us.
  • have you looked into angelcare? i have the monitors with the sensor pad but they also have some that come with the camera
  • @josie749 its cheaper at amazon.com with free shipping as well. I think that is the one I am leaning towards.
Yes @proudmommy8789 I actually bought the one with the pad and camera Friday from babies r us bc they were having their two day sale....and I still payed and arm and a leg for it....if I decide to stay with that brand I am still going to take it back to babies r us bc I am sure I can find it cheaper somewhere else.
  • Thanks for the research!! :)
  • I got the Angel care (or whatever its called) that has these sensor pads that you put under the mattress. I think we spent $170 or so for the thing...we dont even use the damn sensor pads. They beeped too much and we couldn't get them to stop so we could have just bought a regular baby monitor if I had known that. But there's other women that have absolutely loved it on the reviews so it's a great monitor to get
  • No problem @babynumber02. Thanks @kayleigh27 I have the Angelcare video pad and audio one....I haven't seen any reviews for it....

  • Hope so too @mama0811, look into the one you got and see the reviews....some are horrible and don't even work. And some work great.

  • I am not familiar with it, but Fisher Price does make good products. I go to consumer sites...or I type in the product and reviews after it and something should come up. @mama0811. You should be find....it's usually the monitors that get th bad reviews.
