My 2 year old won't eat anything other then breakfast in the morning, and only oatmeal then. I've tried with some of his fav foods, still nothing. Any ideas?
put some applesauce (a little bit) mixed in with it. they wont know they are eating it, but it can open up their opinion to a new food palate and add some flavor. find 3 fruits that he/she likes. allow him/her to choose one to eat with their oatmeal.
try to get him involved in cutting the food. i know he's 2. but have him sit and say...ok, should i cut in big chunks, or little? should we put some cinnamon on it? do you want to throw them in the oatmeal? it's basically a phase. as long as you don't throw a fit and overdramatize the situation he should grow out of it. but don't allow him to dictate if he will eat fruits and veggies. throughout the day instead of a sugary snack offer fruit and veggies, with a dig, or some kind of topping.
@survivormommie3 thanks for the advice, ill give it a try next snack time. Were having steak and potatoes tonight so maybe ill put some cheese wiz on his broccoli and potatoes or something.
there you go. or have him watch veggie tales. i knew kids liked it because of animation, songs and plot. but i learned kids actually listen to it. maybe have him make names. sit down at dinner, and if he throws a fit say "i think we should change the name of broccoli. doesn't the name make the food sound yucky? what about tree, or billy the broccoli head?" or something silly. it's amazing what i tricked my kids into.
