  • I didnt have much milk but I tried whatever I could get out I have her but I also gave her formula
  • Well I really have no choice but I guess I'm glad that I decided to do both and I do breast milk one and formula the other
  • I supplemented w/ formula. But one trick I found was if I held my baby when i pumped and relaxed....that is key....i got more milk. This was ten yrs ago mind you so it may be different now, but i had a one hand breastpump so i just held baby in the opposite hand. Also don't feel guilty or stressed, a little breastmilk does wonder for baby, so if you supplement just know any milk is good. Good luck!
  • I have a double pump so it would be really hard for me to do that but I guess I could try just doing one at a time and holding him
  • I advise to go see a lactation specialist until you can get the baby latched right. I went through the same, my nipples were raw however I was determined. Your baby nursing helps you produce more milk. Pumping didn't work for me but once I got it down my son didn't need the formula. After about a month pumping became more productive. Try and get the baby latched and get nipple shields if need be. Sorry for going on, but try getting your baby's mouth all around your areola and that will help with the pain. When your nipples hurt their mouth isn't latched right. I had to squeeze my sons jaw and pinch my boob just to get all my areola in his mouth and it felt so much better and he gained his weight back and more. Just don't give up. If you need anymore advice let me know. I definitely understand.
  • It's really good to have everyones support here I tried to nurse in the hospital with no luck and I have no insurance right now so I'm like 10 grand or more in debt so I don't have the option to go to a specialist but maybe ill try the guards hope they work well I mean even during intercourse with my hubby he can really touch my nipples because they hurt and this was before I got pregnant :-(
  • Child those nurses didn't help me either. My husband took me out that hospital the next day. But try the sheilds and if that doesn't work, wait till baby cries and try to pump, that usually works.
  • The doctor can also give you pills to produce more milk..and there are teas you can drink also
  • Keep at it- the pain will go away over time.
  • Your breasts will produce enough for the baby. It may not seem like your milk is in yet, for some women it takes a good 1-2 weeks (some times longer) to get their milk in. Your baby is still getting its nutrients from what is called colostrum, which your body produces prior to your milk fully coming in. Breast feed AS MUCH as the baby wants, this will help to keep your milk supply strong. Your nipples and breasts will be sore for the first few weeks, longer if this is your first baby. Make sure your baby is latching on right, not just your nipple should be in the babies mouth, but AT LEAST half of the areola, also try different positions, the football position, the cradle position etc. You have many different milk ducts in your breast and what ever way your babies chin is facing, those milk ducts are being worked harder then the rest, so try to switch it up a bit. A lot of babies may act hungry, but they aren't make sure you check all of the necessaries, and DONT give up on breast feeding. I have breast fed all 3 of my children, I know it can be discouraging, but try to relax, that will also help your milk "let" down. You could also try a heating bad on low/medium on the top of your breasts or even by your arm pit, this will help your muscles relax and help with the milk production process! Good Luck to you!! KEEP AT IT
  • Try the supplement called Fenugreek(not sure of the spelling). I used this with my first son (I have two) it really increased my milk. Good luck!
  • A warm compress on your chest might help for more milk to come out and not being so sore... and at the times you are feeding with formula to pumpimmediately after so your milk supply isn't drying up. So even though your not full time nursing you trick your body into thinking you are. I had a super rough time and then eventually got the hang of it and nursed her for a long time and completely got off formula. Don't feel like a failure though.
  • That herbal stuff does work...drink a bunch...talk to ur doc cuz they can give u something. R u using hospital pump
  • I bought my own pump and here's how my newborn is he will eat every 2-3 hours I will bottle feed him and change him then pump I tried the hot compress it help me not be sore but didn't help the milk I had this problem with my 2yr old as well and after about a month I had no milk I also got cracked nipples and it hurt like hell I'm really scared of that with this one as well but I'm only producing 1/2 an ounce from both together and my son will eat 2-3 ounces once ill have to try the herbal stuff as I'm not to big on taking meds if I don't need to
