a pharmasist told me this..

I drank beer last night and went to kmart to get alcohol milk tester things the pharmasist told me this..
He has never heard of the testers. And that he's never heard of the alcohol going into my milk to the baby passing the beer along to her. He also said I should be fine it would be like if I drank when I was prego If I drink in moderation and not often there will be no fetal harm.
That really pissed me off that he said that.

    I haven't heard of them either n I'm on bf'ing baby 3, I went in looking for a standard alcohol test for my brother n no one sold them its crazy

    He was correct. If you aren't pounding back the beers there is very little that passes through. If you are worried about it don't drink or pump and dump. My hubby is a pharmacist and I have a glass of wine here and there through my pregnancy. Just don't go crazy with it.

    I read something about drinking & breastfeeding in a magazine like yesterday. Having a drink while breastfeeding is fine, in moderation. The best time to have a drink (12 oz) is immediately after you finish feeding so your body has time to metabolize it. I know that alcohol can be passed through breastmilk to your baby, but in moderation, I don't think it would cause a problem. Maybe you should bring it up to a doctor at your next visit. They know more about it than I do. Lol.

    @2sweets yea I've been pumping and dumping but I drank a 40 and I thought I read something that it can pass to baby. Liquor is worse then beer?
    @BabyMcbride8_27 yea I'm going to ask my doc. But you think drinking would pass through the milk into the baby if you didn't wait long enough..

    I talked to both my Wic counselor and my doctor about drinking while bf and they say if you have a beer or two, its fine. If you party hard, its best to pump and dump.

    @Mama_Kat yea a 40 is a lil more then one drink ha. And if drinking can help your milk supply then maybe that's why I've been producing more..

    @Mama_Kat my lactation consultant told me that its only the dark beers that help with milk production.

    @Proudmommy8789 I heard something about dark beer. Don't quote me on this but drinking dark beer when prego isn't as bad as light..

    @minirip i dont know anything about drinking it while pregnant but when your breastfeeding drinking a dark beer is good for milk production!

    @minirip yeah it was one of the rare times I felt bad for her. Here she is just given birth to twins not even out of the hospital and having to deal with that crap

    @blueberrysmom I knew they were real! I found it weird that pharmasist hadn't heard of them.. and frusrating he said I would be fine to drink and breastfeed after.. and that drinking during pregnancy wouldt cause fetal harm..

    Well what I know is 1alcoholic drink takes 1 hour to metabolize & leave your system. So feeding baby then having a beer is ok. Because next feeding will be in 3 hrs. Plenty of time for the alcohol to leave your system & not be in the breast milk.

    Idiot.. It only takes a hour to matabolize 1 drink.. I always just waited till my son went to sleep for the night.. Had a drink then had at least 3 hrs to get it out.. And no point in pump and dump cause its matabolised in the breast milk as well I found tjat out

    @one5one that's what I've read to. But I told him numerous times I had a 40 so I knew that if I fed her after drinking (2 or 3 hours) it would get passed to her.

    Geez! You downed a 40oz! Lol yea that wouldn't have. Been out your system. I thinks its 12 oz of beer an hour. Or a glass of wine....6 or 8 oz...in an hour or 1 shot of hard liquor. But good for you trying to find if it was in the milk. That pharmacist was a loon!

    They have them at target next to the breast pumps Lol I've been thinking about drinking a few beers tonight i even pumped a lot today and i think i deserve one or two my bobbies hurt lol

    My sil breast fed n randomly drank a beer here n there its not gonna hurt baby there r lots of women who do it...as. long as your no getting plowed
