So is it better to get the spinal tap or epidural (sp) for my c-section? Im scheduled aug 24th at 7:30... im deadly afraid of pain..... any advice what I will except? My doctor wasn't that informative...
You will want to get a spinal block. I don't think they even use epudurals for c sections, to be honest. I think people get confused because the block is placed in the same manor an epudural is placed. An epudural is not a good idea for a major abdominal surgery. The spinal block will ensure that you feel no pain. It will make you numb from your diaphram to your toes. You will then get an oral pain medication to control your pain...no driving when taking the pain meds. I got percocet. The block may cause you to itch, so as soon ad you feel itchy let your nurse know. You will not be able to get up and walk around for several hours since you will be numb. You will have a urinary catheter placed. You won't be able to shower for 24 hours. You may have a lot of gas pain for several weeks. Your first bowel movement will be painful. Some people are feeling back to normal with some pain with in a week, but it is usually 2-4 weeks. I think that's it
I got the epi and so glad I did. I wasn't offerd anything other than that. I was in labore for 2 days before I got my epi. Ounce you receive it you are stuck in bed.and you will get a cathader put in also. I hardly felt the procedure being done, just a sharp twinge of the needle but that's it. Just after you have the baby get up and walk as soon as they take the cathader out. You'll have a lot of water retention. I blew up like a puffer fish...lol good luck hun...and Congrats on your Lo to be!! and @momof22be is right and if your like me I also had to take a anti nausa pill with it, couse pain killers make me sick.
