basically in labor(venting) hating my hospital

I went to l&d two days ago, was there for 6 hours. I was contracting like full labor contractions and I feel every bit of it. I am only 35 weeks. The doctor said they wont give me anything to stop it, because I am staying dilated to 11/2. They want me to come in very 48 hours to be checked.

In l&d I had a nurse who was mean. She complained my daughter was loud. My daughter was sleeping. So I had to have my friend leave with her because the nurse wouldn't stop complaining. About an hour later I finally see a doctor and they hook me up to a monitor. He said wow those are some contractions, I said yes I know I came in for a reason. He then had a nurse come take my blood. Well the nurse was obviously stupid and couldn't he poked my arm 4 times and kept shoving it around, I had to ask for a different nurse. well she did the same. They kept telling me I was notdrinking enough water. All I drink is waters I went thru 12 bottles the whole 6 hours I was there. the doctor told them to put an iv in me and get fluids going. That's when I snapped I told them no one touching with another needle till I had some answers. So the doctor decides to check me finally. Well they sent an a doctor who says your my first patient ever. I said okay, surely checking someone isn't going to be hard. Well I don't know what the heck he did because the other doctor came in and said oh he forgot to check you so now I am going to. What the hell was he doing down there then. Also the whole time this is taking place I had to remind them to bring in a nurse they were trying to check me with no nurse. So then I am left in the room after all the checking, and tests for about an hour and no one came back. So I called my husband hoping he could answer to let him know what was going on and a nurse steps in and says no cell phones in the room get off your phone. I asked her if I could see the doctor I had questions she told me the doctor went out for some food. I had to wait. Another hour passes finally the doctor comes in and says my due date is wrong. I asked okay what's my due date, she responded with I am not sure, Umm okay. She then started to say I am due now, I told her it wasn't possible and when my last period was and when I had sex. She then stated well I guess you cheated on your husband you conceived in nov. I then took the monitor of me and said I was leaving. I would never cheat and some b**** who doesn't know me has no right to say that. She then said okay okay sorry let me do an ultrasound. Well now my due date is right at sept 21 like it has always been. The doctor then said come back in 48 hours since your at 35 weeks basically we are not going to stop the contraction.

So I leave l&d go get my daughter from my friends. My husband is in some training till Sept sometime. So I am taking care of her (she just started walking so it is very stressful when it should be something I enjoy for her). I started spotting I called and told the doctor they told me to come in at 230 in the afternoon. I was wasn't happy with that but I just went with it. I go and the doctor checks me and says well your not bleeding and haven't dilated any more just go home and come back in 48 hours. I looked at her and said I love almost 30 minutes aways, my husbands gone and I have a 1 year old, I am in a pain I can't keep driving around I want more answers on why you wont stop my contractions and help easy the pain. 35 weeks is to early for the baby to be born, she responded with we have many patients we will not give you special treatment. Apparently asking for answers is special treatment.

I called tricare today and asked if I could switch to standard, and not worry about a doctor and just go to a civilian l&d and she refused to help. So I went to tricare office on base and they made me feel even worse. They went off saying our doctors are well trained, you can pay for your child birth we will not help you switch to a civilian doctor. I never said one negative thing about the doctors to the tricare office I just told them I believed I was being treated wrong.

Now its been 3 days of contractions and they just keep getting more painful and its just me and my daughter and I am worried about delivering my baby at that hospital or if I will even be able to make it on my own if it gets worse.
Guess this is a vent. Typically I post for venting.

  • that's all ridiculous..i would be pissed and annoyed..hopefully you get answers soon!
  • :-( that's so stupid! I'm annoyed for u :-(
  • Its so aggravating. I was polite as I could be. And still didn't get answers. I am really worried the contractions are going to get worse and put stress on the baby and because I am not progressing like they like we wouldn't know If the baby is being harmed because I am not being monitor only checked.

  • I thought they had to stop contractions before 37 weeks. The nurse being in the room is mandatory I believe. I put a complaint in at the hospital. I am giving them a chance to apologize and actually do something if they choose to ignore me and my next visit is crap. Then I have thought about taking legal actions. I am waiting for ny husband to get me the name of a lawyer his friend told him about.
  • Do what I did and tell them you'll come back every hour on the hour. They have to treat you because you're pregnant and in pain lol they legally cannot deny you treatment
  • They are seeing me every 48 hours though but not doing anything about it really they sign me in check me and send me home a total of 15 minutes each visit. So they can say they gave me treatment.

I have wrote down each visit and what happened and what time though and exactly how I have been feeling. Its the best I can do in my position right now.
  • @bradford2 are they hookin u to fetal monitors when ur checked?
  • I'm due a day before you and I'm going thru the same thing. Contracting every 2-3 mins starting Sunday at noon, offered to stop them with a shot but its not approved for pregnancy so I refused. My cervix stopped making change ugh frustrating :-( sorry ur dealing with douche bags that makes it even worse!
  • @cetheridge No they wont use the fetal monitor. They just find the heart beat.

@kenzie0713 they do have shots that are aporoved. I would be asking them about it.
  • Wow yea you should sue. Better yet report this to the Governors office and local news. Couldnt be me bc i would raise pure hell in there until i was satisfied. I cant stand hospitals these days, they will do and say anything uncivil within their 'standards'.
  • Ya that's not right. I'm guessing ur on a military hospital for this baby ? Sometimes that's the unfortunate thing about the military is the medical care provided is no where near the level of civilian hospitals.. I'm so sorry hun I hate that u r dealing with d-bags...
  • I absolutely hate dealing with military doctors so I definitely feel your pain!
  • Wow...I'm an RN and that kind of behavior from medical staff is UNACCEPTABLE. Especially the doc accusing you of cheating?!?! Can you file some type of anonymous complaint? Sorry you're having to deal with those inconsiderate people :(

  • Damn that sucks! I was in hospital unday and was 35 weeks 5 days and had contractions every 2 to 3 minutes and they stopped them for me and said even though I was near the cut off week it was still preterm. I hope all gets better. The way some people get treated. Smh
  • I feel so bad for u :(
And all the ladies dealing with these military hospital.
I would never think that they would be so bad. I would have thought u guys get treated way better or something. I am really saddened that ur families r putting their lives on the line n can't get proper medical care. Yet some bum on the street can go in To a hospital or er m get top care n not pay a cent . Totally unacceptable !!!
  • that's absurd. i am so sorry you are dealing with their incompetence!
  • See my doc said they don't offer much to help after 34 weeks. It's really frustrating!!! I was offered something not approved then nubain and that made mo sense. It's like they send us home to figure it out on our own :-( and mine is a regular hospital. What state r u in??
  • Wow, I am so sorry that you have to go through all of that bullshit.. :(
  • I couldn't believe the way they treated mr and many others. I have learned I am not the only one getting crappy feed back. @kenzie713 I live in Washington.

OMG if nobody else understands what you're going through, I do!!!! I am so sorry you are going through that. I've never had any issues with the military docs, but this time I got stuck with a civilian hospital and they are kind of slow acting. Where do you live?

  • @KarenNLove I have already complained and wrote a letter, I believe my husband srg is going to make some calls today. I am trying to keep it as calm as I can with my husband gone and with me being. The only parent around at the moment for my daughter. Its not easy I want to rip there heads off everytime I am there but if I can't get anything solved by friday I will definitely be making changes on Monday morning.

@mama0811 I think I saw you at your appointment on Monday I believe maybe it was Tuesday Idk. My days are running together right now.

Anyways I have heard good things about the actually l&d. I am thinking it may have been the triage that was that way. Although I am still getting crappy doctors at appointments.

I asked if I could just go to the hospital over here in Olympia considering its 30 minutes from base and I live like 5 minutes away. But they said no to me. You would think as busy as they claim to be one less person for them to care for would be good for them.

I am at a complete loss as to what to think my actually birthing experiences is going to be like. I haves heard both good and bad.
  • Tricare told you that??!! I work on a military base. All patients have the right to.get on standard and choose who they want to see regardless of what's provided on post. I would take their names and demand to speck to the patient advocate or their supervisor!

  • Good luck hun hope u get better service
  • I got a call today saying they were going to give me a doctor I will see till the end. Guess I will see what happens tomorrow.

Also tricare will let me switch they just made ne feel horrible for wanting to changing.and are telling me I will have to pay a good amount to deliver off base.

@mama0811 I hope you have a good experience. I do hate how they have different doctors. But hopefully that last doctor we see is the best and a good experience.
