medication and pregnancy

My husband and I are planning on having a baby...my Dr is out of state and I was curious if anyone took prozac during their pregnancy.

  • I have a list of approved medications upstairs, I'll fetch it tomorrow and type it here for you (I don't want to wake my my little guy right now). As for Prozac, I suggest doing a quick google search. Even things that are stated as safe during pregnancy, people have had side effects from. Its best to do your research in several places before making any decisions. In either case, if it is not approved, there may be a different anti-depressant that better suits your needs. Make sure you take note of the FDA risk categories drugs are placed into to help guide you in your decision. Good luck.
  • I talked to my doc about anti depressants and she said they really didn't like to put preganat women on them till after 20wks but all you can do is talk to your doc. Good luck on trying for a little one hope it works out for you! :)
  • Thanks we are trying to get our ducks in a a row before and I don't want to take something that could hurt the baby...I haven't been able to find much information online so I will keep searching...we are excited to plan for our first baby..any advice welcome.
  • After you guys start trying if doesn't happen right away don't give up but don't think about trying lol I found that stressing about not getting ppregnant doesn't help! And plus my doc told me humans are the most unfertil. Before I found out I was pregant my brother call me and told me I was gonna be an aunt and I cried to my hubby saying I was gonna be an old bitter woman with no kids and the wholw time I was about 6wks and didn't know it. Well like I said good luck to you guys!!
  • Thanks and good luck to you as well

    :)
  • Does anyone know about Adderall? I take it for narcolepsy. At my last pap, my ob/gyn told me it was ok to take. When I called yest to set up my first prenatal appt (feb 22) I asked about the meds again to be sure. The nurse called me back and said stop taking it. I'm confused and terrified with having extra fatigue when I cant stay awake without the meds!!! I have a feeling the nurse didn't actually talk to my doc.
  • I just saw an ad on the tv regarding prozac and pregnancy. Recent studiies conducted show prozac causes low birthweight, skull deformation, heart valve failure and several other things. I know a girl taking it and her dr said it was ok. She just had an ultrasound and baby is not developing correctly. There is a class action lawsuit against prozac.
  • Wow...thanks for the heads up...
  • Well I am currently prego and am taking myh adderrall. I have cleared through my obgyn, andx the two other drs that work with her. Its a category c, so the benefits must outweigh the risks. The most it does is low birth weight and preterm delivery. Its notg a tetrigenic, meaningv it doesn't cause genetic deformities. U just need to be eating consistently and be monitored
