Yeast Infection Question! D:

edited August 2011 in Health
I recently (a few weeks ago) was told I had a yeast infection due to some antibiotics I had to take. Had the damn thing for 4 months before it was caught. >_> I did the monistat 7 thing, the cream you put inside for 7 days. It helped so much! But after, I realized my discharge was similar to what it had been before during the infection (in consistency, color, and scent)... occasionally since the treatment, I've had the ping-like sting of an itch here and there, but not often. I asked my doctor if I could re-treat for a yeast infection, and he said go for it, that it wouldn't hurt anything if there wasn't an infection.

Well!! I decided on the 3-day cream this time since I only have about a week before we do my c-section... I didn't want to spend this last week sleeping uncomfortably, you know? Well, last night I did the first night of 4% cream (the other (the 7 day) was 2%) and it itched and burned like a b**ch! I finally managed to go to sleep... when I woke up, the itching and burning was gone, but man! I don't know if I want to do that again! D: Is the stronger percentage supposed to do that? Or does the cream do that if there's no yeast infection? Should I continue treatment? I have an appointment tomorrow, so would it hurt the treatment process if I skipped tonight and just asked him tomorrow? If I do have a YI, it's mild. I just don't want it to get as bad as it was, nor do I wanna deal with it while I'm dealing with an infant in the NICU and an incision, you know?

What do I do?? :/

  • The first day of the 3 day cream always itches the shit outa me!! I am betting its the higher percentage.. but it def works better for me. And it would be pointless to start and stop ur treatment cause u would have to buy a whole new kit and start over and u can become immune to meds by starting and stopping it.. I also am not a pharmacist so I would call a pharmacist at walgreens and ask them their professional opinion.. good luck! :)
  • Im not too sure so ill bump this. Im suffering from itchyness down there I dnt know if I haveone or not may be a while till my doc checks. Im thinking im.just gonna go get monistat in a bit.
  • @lalalorree Have you ever had one before? In the package, it says not to use it unless your doctor has confirmed a yeast infection before and you for sure know that's what it is. Itchiness can be a sign of other types of infections that would require a different treatment. Idk how monistat would affect the other types... it's an anti-fungal, not an antibiotic. So maybe call your doctor and be as specific as possible? See what s/he says?
  • It would probably be because the 3 day is stronger. Plus you might have been irritated in there which made it burn more.
I wouldn't skip a day, it could mess up the treatment. Call your doctor or a pharmacist and ask though.
  • @podgemarine It would only be one night... and the receptionist lady said "Ultrasound and ob appointment"... so Idk if that means they're checking my cervix (to make sure I'm not going to go into labor early or whatever) or what have you. I had completely forgotten about that til today when I was talking to my mom.... She's dealt with YIs a lot in her life (antibiotics cause them in her, too... and she's had lots of surgeries and such that require them)... but mom's not always all-knowing. lol. Would skipping just one night cause harm?
  • I dont think ive ever had one just uti's. Im hoping my doc calls me tomorrow but hes a bad doc, so im scared I wont be cured for a while. Im going stir crazy
  • @lalalorree you could always try going to the local health department. They might do it for free with insurance. I know they test for other types of infections and whatnot, so I don't see why they wouldn't.
  • Yeahh ill.have to see :) I live in canada so may be a little different
