adrien is in the hospital UPDATE waiting on lab results

edited August 2011 in Babies
i took him back to the dr today because the methods to relieve his severe constipation are not working. she decided it was time to have him taken to the hospital for x rays. she was saying there could be a tummy blockage, or something about segments of his intestines didn't get proper nerve ending/connections and that's possibly why he's not able to pass bowl movements (he was born 5 weeks early and its possible his preemie status could have a role in these complications) either way, both issues require surgery. so he's already gotten the x rays and I'm just waiting to hear the results so i know what the next step is.
this is way too stressful. he spent the first 10 days of his life in the nicu and it was so difficult for me to see him like that. i thought when he came home we would be done with hospitals. i just want my baby to be healthy and ok.
i will update as soon as i know what's going on

  • Prayers for you and your son. Your doctor is talking about herschsprungs disease. They just thought my daughter had it she went in for a biopsy last week but thank god she didnt have it. It is treatable I know everyhing about it let me know if you have any questions
  • OK so his x rays came back and there's no blockage, but adriens dr contacted the gastroenterologists at the hospital and he may want to do a biopsy (what of I'm not sure) and very possibly have a surgery. but first he wants me to try one more thing. its this stuff called concentrated nectar i guess its a juice i give him 3 times a day. and tomorrow i have to take him to labcorp to get a thyroid test. and she also put him on a new formula its nutriregimin (sp)? and wic is being difficult and saying i can't get them till the 18th of next month >:( and then after the guy said that he added "wow and that's an expensive formula". gee thanks. so idk what I'm going to do right now. and its been a stressful hot day with this and work and adriens dad being an asshole and my dad being an asshole, I'm putting me n adrien to bed early. thank u everybody for the sweet prayers i hope my baby is going go be ok.

    @mommy2chris that is also something his dr brought up today. i just read about it online and it scares me

    here's a link if anybody wants to read up on what adriens dr was talking about as a possible diagnosis

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hirschsprung's_disease

    it describes the surgery he would need to have
    at the bottom of the article
  • Please keep me updated. I hope everything works out. If your doctor does do a biopsy please don't worry. My daughter went in surgery at just 15 days old. They put her under and took biopsys of 4 different areas of the large intestine to see if she had the cells or not. Its nothing major and only took 45 minutes.
  • Kaylee came 6 weeks early and she had the same problem. She spent 16 days in a NICU. They ended up giving her an enema and she started pooping right away but they also did some xrays and a biopsy. They said something about her not passing her meconium (sp) plug when she was born. I'm sure your baby will be fine. If you want to talk let me know!

    @mommy2chris
    and
    @tootie08
    did they put your daughter to sleep for it? and how do they go in for the biopsy? through the stomach?
  • Prayers!!
  • @jess510 thank you so much!
  • My buddy! I hope everythin is ok. Prayin for both u guys.
  • Yes they put her to sleep and they went through her butt she spotted a tiny bit but didnt seem to be in pain. my doctor was a pediatric surgeon that specialized in it he was also one of the countries top doctors for it. So please find a good one. But anyways whatever he did to her since that day she poops all the time.
  • I have a friend with a little boy with the issue your doctor was talking about. I know she is always looking for other mums with kids suffering the same issues so if you want to talk to her let me know. Goodluck
  • so i took adrien to the labcorp yesterday and he had his blood drawn for the thyroid test. and after that i took him to my aunts to get an enema. it definitley got all that back-up outta there and he really seemed to be feeling so much better after that. I'm just waiting for his dr to call me with the lab results so we know if he is going in for a biopsy. ill let everyone know when i find out.

    @mommy2chris after the biopsy your baby goes ok? or was it after the surgery that everything was better?

    @tinka1326 did your friends child have the surgery or does she just get regular enemas for him?
  • Just the biopsy I dont know what it did but it sure woke her bowels up. She was crying and always in pain I had to keep giving her suppositories and since that day I havent had to. does your baby have all the symptoms of hirshsprungs? Do they really believe he has it or do they just want to rule it out
  • Good luck mama
  • Poor lil guy!! Prayers are with him!
  • @mommy2chris he has ALL the symptoms/signs. and right now the only thing that is working for him is getting him enemas. his pediatrician sent him for x rays to rule out a blockage. when the GI got involved he brought up hirschsprungs and wanted to do a biopsy. I'm just waiting for his pediatrician to call with the lab results and see what the next step is
  • thanks everybody ♥ i still haven't heard the test results so hopefully i will have something to update tomorrow. goodnight
  • @proudmommy8789 tagging myself so I cam find this later. I hope everything turns out okay
  • He has had the surgery but unfortunately it was not successful. Im not sure about what his treatments are now but I know he does have complications still and is in and out of hospital regularly. Sorry I dont have a better story for you. But he is a very happy little boy despite the issues he has had. He is about 3 now
  • @tinka1326 omg i have such anxiety over this. i don't know what I'm going to do if this turns out to be a serious serious medical issue. good luck to your friend and her son i hope everything works out for all of us.
