Achilles' Heel

edited August 2011 in Just for Fun
Sometimes I feel my son's little feet and knees pushing on or near my ribs. I always think "aw, its Achilles' Heel!" A lot of people who don't like that I'm naming him Achilles say that phrase will haunt him his entire life. It's too bad that the hero of the Iliad is now associated with weakness, but I'm not naming my son after a tendon or a weakness. I'm naming him after a badass hero!

Just wanted to share that :) it turned into a little rant, but whatever.

  • I think its a cool name. It makes me picture a baby wearing one of those war helmets with the red mohawk on top lol
  • Lol cute (: maybe your lil achillies can hook up with my lil Minerva ;) lol.
  • @starrxoxo9
    I actually made him a mohawk hat :) its a union jack hat tho, not like a helmet. Congrats on your baby btw! I can't keep up with all these births!
  • Aw cute! And thanks, I know it seems like someone's popping out a baby everyday lol

    I love the name Minerva! I met a girl in college named Athena. Then there's that reporter named Aphrodite Jones. Aretha (as in Aretha Franklin) is a Greek name too, actually. I think that ancient Greek names should make a comeback!

    I'm definitely gonna post pics of him in it on Pregly after he's born. It's just way too cool! :)
  • I can't wait to see him! :)
  • Atleast people know who Achilles was. My son is Loki and at first we got the "isn't that presious" old lady face now since the Thor movie came out we are getting flack for naming him after a comic book villan. AHHHH!!
  • @starrxoxo9
    Me too! Hahah! I'm so ready for him but I'm not due til September 12th!

    *facepalm* People are dumb. Hopefully people won't think I named Achilles after Brad Pitt when he was in Troy. I've never seen the movie! I read the Iliad in high school and some poetry about Achilles in college. That's when I decided on the name.
  • Well you never know what can happen, I wasn't due til Sept 6th, had her on August 5th!! ;)

    My husband thinks I'll deliver a little early. I was 10 days early and he was a month early, so maybe Achilles will be too. I haven't had any contractions or bloody show or anything yet, do I'm not getting my hopes too high.
  • Marcus is suppose to mean from Ares or of the god of war. I'm a big greek mythology geek so Achilles is an awesome name but I adore the name Loki from norse mythology, if my dad could pronounce it I'd totally name my son that :)
  • The ancient Greek and roman names should make a comeback. They had so much meaning (;
  • I have a friend who just named her baby boy Aristotle

    Same here. Ancient mythology is so fascinating! I've always loved reading about ancient cultures. I think I started with Egypt when I was 8 and went from there.
    @jasmingn
    There are lots of ancient Greek names on baby name sites. It would be cool if they did start becoming more popular!
    @mrsford25
    That is so cool!!!
