Anyone not take the 3 hr glucose test?

edited August 2011 in Pregnant
Ok I have taken 3 one hour glucose test, and passed all 3. But the last test was kinda close but still passing. My doctor still wants me to take the 3 hour test, just to be safe. I called to set up the appointment today and the lady said I had to take it Thursday or wait 3 weeks because she's booked up. The appointment would be at 945 and I wouldn't be aloud to eat anything after 11pm the night before. So I can't eat for around 15 hours, and I have to stay setting in the lobby, I was wanting to go across the street and set with my boyfriend while he dose dialysis. So has anyone just not done the 3 hour test, when doctor told you to?

  • I was supposed and I didnt.
  • Are you having any issues from it @mybambina28
  • Y DO THEY MAKE U TAKE IT SO MANY TIMES @MSCHOP?? I TOOK MY ONE HOUR TEST & PASSED IT AND THAT WAS THAT I GUESS EVERY DOC IS DIFFERENT
  • Not that I can tell I just made the mark and they wanted me to take it in case nurse said chances are I dont have gd.we only hve one car and and hubs works 6 days a week so between dr and wic appts its been hectic he cant afford to take off work since I had to quit my job due to bedrest
  • @lovelymommie21 my doc said it was because of my size. I'm 5'11 and wight 280 but I have only gained 7 pounds and I'm 33 weeks. I'm starting to not like my doctor
  • @mybambina28 kinda the same here, we are broke right now so I would need to go at the same time my boyfriend has dialysis, witch is right across the street. I'm thinking of tweaking my diet cutting back on my MT dew and candy just to be safe.
  • Plus I cant handle 12 hrs no eating :/
  • Mine would of been 15 hours without eating, and that's only if I brang a sandwich with me, I will have to hang around for another 3 hours for my boyfriend to get done. And really how can not eating for that long can't be safe. @mybambina28
  • I wouldnt worry my dr doesnt seem to be.how are you feeling

Kind of a different type of input.
After my morning sickness went away with my daughter I felt fine. Health wise I felt good, I was just sore (We all know about that lol)
Anyway my Doctors office is now a "teaching office" (Yes, awesome....) No matter how many times I plead to get one of my three MAIN family Doctors they ignore me...
    So I was at my appointment with a woman I was seeing for the first time, which happened EVERY appointment. She pulled out her measuring tape and attempted to "measure the baby" I was about 30 weeks pregnant. She looked at me when she was done and said this;
"You have a very big baby! It is already 10 pounds. Obviously you have gestational Diabetes because even though you're not gaining a lot of weight, the baby is. I'm sending you in for the 3 hour test, we aren't even bothering with the preliminary ones because I am very certain you have it"
I told her I felt completely fine and that I was just at an ultrasound the day before and they said the baby was actually on the smaller side. She ignored me and filled out the papers (Incorrectly which resulted in me waiting an extra 45 minutes to do the test while they faxed the correctly made up papers) and I had to do the test.
I got the results back and she was 100% wrong!!
I got myself a midwife even though I was so far along... Best thing I could have ever done.
My Daughter was 7 pounds 4.8 ounces born at 38 weeks. I knew in my gut that I was completely fine and I honestly should have listened to it and not starved my pregnant self, drank that sugar crap, and feel completely terrible for 3 hours, for some trainee Doctor. It just doesn't seem natural, and I'll know better this go around.

That's another thing she has never measured my belly, the nurse always sets out the tape measure but she never has used it. I have placenta previa, so I get an ultrasound about every month, and he is spot on at every ultrasound. I don't know if my insurance would let me change doctors this late, only have 6 weeks left @firsttimer89
  • I never took it with this pregnancy. Dr said with my past surgery I am not allowed to. They just did a random blood text fasting. If u have no symptoms or complaints pass.. or u can also do random finger sticks for a week: ask Dr about that.
  • I am very weary of that test now. It just doesn't seem right what it does to your body, let alone your baby. Sounds like you have taken it way too many times. By no means would I tell you to go against a doctors orders, but I wouldn't do it.
  • I am 29 weeks and I've taken 2 1 hr tests so far. I took the first early on and everything was fine. I took the 2nd 2 weeks ago, and haven't heard but usually no news is good news with my dr office. I never had any issues with my first so I think its dumb they made me do the early one. They claim its because my first was such a big boy I'm at higher risk. I have a dr apt Friday so I guess I will find out the results then.
  • If u have passed the 1 hr test even if it is close my office doesn't make u do the 3 hr test. I refused to do it last time, this time bc my #s were up higher she requested i do it, which i juust did and i be leave that i passed. Wont know till i go to the office to ck. But in my opinion since u passed i wouldn't take it.
  • Okay called my doctor office and got the numbers, I had a 135 and passing is 135 and below. So I'm not going to do that to me or my baby. I know its kinda high but still I passed 3 already
  • I did 1hr test n I only.passed.by .1 n they.didn't send me for 3hr test my.baby was.10lb12 I really think I had gestational diabetied or the steps in chicken are.amazing
  • Steroids*
  • Lol @bummy87 it's all the chickens fault.
