I'm told that contractions are what you really need to look for. What pisses me off is that I have no idea what to expect from a contraction! Losing your mucous plug can be a sign too, but not very reliable. Some people don't lose it before labor starts and others will lose it a week before labor starts. Dull back ache is another sign that something might be going on. There's tons, but contractions seem to be the only way to really tell.
