is she really this hungry???

My baby is 5wks old today and she is insatiable!!! She spends over an hour nursing, empties both breasts and then will take a 2 oz bottle!!! It's insane and I feel like I'm spending hours feeding her! And I know I'm producing enough, when I pump I get like 4oz every time. Her Dr said because she was premature its hard to gauge when she'll have a growth spurt, but I think that's what's happening. Any advice or insight???

    Just keep nursing her. It's a growth spurt that will last a day to a couple of days. It wont last long. Though, be careful with the supplementing (not sure if you have to for other reasons) because when a baby goes through a growth spurt and you're breast feeding, their constant nursing triggers your supply to go up so it can continue to support them as they get older and need more.

    Not sure if your supplementing with formula or just giving her breast milk in a bottle lol sorry
    If it's breast milk in a bottle you'll want her to continue on the breast so she can get your supply up and going.

    @littlefae I know I hate giving her a bottle, but she will nurse for over an hour and at the end she just pulls off and cries so I assume nothing coming out?? Am I wrong?

    @starrxoxo9 - is that after she nurses off of both? I'm a ftm (still pregnant) and all of this is from what I have read, or talked to other breastfeeding moms and my mom who breastfed all seven of us (yeah I come from a big family) lol.

    I've been told when they go through a growth spurt they are also extra cranky because they are constantly wanting to nurse and are hungry.

    Also, if you can maybe while you give her a bottle try pumping and see if you can get anything to come. Or keep trying to get her to latch onto your breast so she can trigger your body to start producing more.

    My preemie is 4 months now. She is driving me crazy too. Wants to nurse all the time. Throws fits to get it. Shes over eating and has reflux. i call her my little boobie monster.

    @ashleyfew but eventually she pulls off and cries and shows signs of hunger. Babies should come with instructions lol
