FTM cleaning baby bottle properly

edited September 2011 in Pregnant
I'm finishing up the last preparations for baby girl, ftm, being induced on Thursday. I am going to breast feed for at least 6 months but so my hubby can feed baby girl too will pump. How many bottles should we have? And can anyone tell me the proper way to clean them for the first time? I heard dishwasher is ok but then not and something about boiling them? How do you do that?

  • U can now buy a bottle sanitizer. U wash the bottles by hand and then put them in there. I have a bottle brand called Closer to Nature Tommee Tippee. Bottles for spitter uppers, gassiness and colic and thire is a special way to clean mine, but I jus do em all by hand and let them air dry.
  • When u first open bottles from pckg.. unassemble each piece from bottle, ex: nipple, ring, cap, bottle, pacificers too... and put all pieces in a med size pot with boiling water.... leave in there for about 5min and remove from boiling and assemble and ready to use..

  • @betty I don't need to sanitizer them after that also?
  • U can use a dishwasher too. I never had a sanitizer and my kids turned out fine... just let them air dry and use a bottle brush to really get in there good
  • I'm going to handwash all of her bottles and nipples and whatever it comes with with a bottle brush and dish liquid that's safe , then put it in a pot with boiling water on the stove for about 5-7 mins. (The boiling water sanitizes the bottles and nipples and whatever else.) Also.. some bottles like playtex drop ins can't be sterilized but definitely need to be washed, but that's fine because you put liners in there :)
  • Just know you cannot wash the playtex drop in bottles they will melt!!!
  • Sorry I meant boil
  • No need to sanatize... Yet you can re do the boiling process once a week or two...
Pacifiers need to be boiled too!!
Dish soap is safe, thatz what ive used since day one!!

  • I'm not sure ? Try reading on the box if it says don't boil or sterilize.
