Wanted to share :) NPR, little bit of bragging, little advice needed!

My husband and I got the house we were looking at! :) Its a really cute 2bed/2bath with an extra laundry room. It has a huge yard, great for baseball with our son in 5 years! :) We live on the 3rd story of an apartment complex, so not having to drag the baby up 2 flights of stairs in the freezing cold is a plus! I'm so happy :) Now, we just need a washer&dryer as well as lawnmower. Riding because the lawn is seriously huge lol! So, any one have tips on finding either of those used? I'm a little nervous because I'm scared of buying one that doesnt work or breaks on us! Also, this is our first time paying our own bills, is it easier and cheaper than I'm imaging? Everyone has made me kinda scared about electric bills :(

    Most electric companies have "budget plans" so u might wanna ask em. U can get cheap (new) washers and driers like $300 each at places like lowes. Or check craigslist for used. Congrats! Its exciting!! Good luck! :)

    @mommyof3girls Yeah, we went and priced everything. Washer and dryer at home depot were like 350. We found one at sears for like 320 I think! So we estimate like 700 for that. But lawnmowers were like 900 dollars :O Budget plans? OMG I've never heard of that! Thank you though! I'm so happy I feel so blessed

    Craigslist! For the washer and dryer and maybe a mower. I've never seen a riding lawn mower ongoing there but then again, I've never looked lol.

    check craigslist for any used items just make sure u get all the info u need and also if u do prefer something new u can wait till they go on sale around xmas or black friday.....as far as bill go it is alot better!! I am house hunting myself for our first home and as i take in the prices of some of these homes their almost the same as what i pay in rent!!! so its onviously worth it in the long run u build better credit/ equity......as far as utility bills just make sure u are more cautious now about what u use and look into getting energy efficient appliances and theres even outlets that are timed that shut off whatever is connected to it after a certain amount of time....Good luck and Congrats!! :)

    oh and might i add that i personally love sear when it comes to big ticket items like a lawn mower and W&D they have the best warrantys and they come to your home to fix it

    @mamato2boys Yeah I actually thought about that! But do home things really go on sale too? lol I dont remember, I've never look at them before! My husband works midnights so I think I'm gonna have to buy a bunch of nightlights instead of keeping lights on!

    Yeah my grandmother is the one who reccomended sears to me, she LOVES them as well! :)

    You can try looking on Craigslist or claasifieds. Or check out Aaron's. They're more expensive in the long run however you're technically renting it until its paid for fully. That's the route we went because buying a mower outright was waay too much and our credit was fairly sucky lol
    Congrats on the house! Bills aren't necessarily cheaper but there are ways to cut down. Set the thermostat at reasonable temp (for most people its high 70s), the rest is seriously stuff your folks yelled at you for growing up lol shut lights off when you leave a room, me personally I don't even like turning the lights on (provided its a room with a window) when the sun is up.

    Definitely get your electric on the budget plan that way same price all the time try finding a lawn mower repair shop sometimes they sell them to

    @mrs_shu I wanted to rent originally, but my husband thought that It was silly. I have to have the temp at like 68-70 :( I'm gonna have to invest in personal fans! Thanks for the advice though :) I feel better :D

    @babyinblack682 can you explain how the budget plan works? Like, do they shut it off when I go over a limit? I've never heard of one of those! Google here I come :) Thank you!

    The budget plan has you paying the same amount each month year 'round, and once a year you pay the amount you used over or get back what you used under. You can call the utility company and they will be able to give you an idea of how much the bill will be.

    Sears is good for appliances and they have layaway for the mower.

    I had a budget plan. They see on average how much power u use for a month or two and average it together. Sometimes u pay extra sometimes u pay way less. But after a year it tends to even itself out.if ir over u have to pay the over usage at the end of a year. It can really screw u if ur not careful! Make sure u use means to control energy. Turn lights off open windows those fancy light bulbs... things like that. Ceiling fans are a great energy efferent cooling tool!

    @pinkigirl Thank you :) we're only renting but its still a really big step for us :) I live in goldsboro north carolina! Its an hour away from raliegh and the east coast!

    @mandac10 Okay thanks for explaining! I was worried :) Yeah the house we have doesnt have ceiling fans :( So I'm gonna have to buy plug in fans haha
