should i get a four door car???

edited January 2011 in Pregnant
So I have a two door car that I love. I'm 10 weeks pregnant and wondering if I should sell my car for a four door so it will be easier to put my baby in and out?

  • I have a two door VW Golf, abd I'm not betting tis of it, it will be a tag more difficult to get in abd out but if you think about it car seats are just awkward abd difficult in general. Ill only be buying a new car once we have more children we have to fit in the back.
Also my sister in law had a two door toyota celica and she says
  • That it's not that much more difficult than putting her in the back seat of a four door

Oh okay thank you I wasn't sure how well my car was gunna work
  • I would wait till you know your safe from anything bad happening but after that I would say deffently look at a four door my bestfriend just had a baby and I tried taking it out and I got the baby stuck in the back seat because there is just no room!!! And its a lot more work trying to lift over seats and everything else!
  • I do have a small Honda civic. So its pretty tinny. I'm definitely Guinn look into getting a bigger car.
  • How bout once you get the car seat you try it out... put like a 10 lb bag of flour or rice in it so you'll have the weight of the baby and see how it works for you Cuz you never know, it might not be that difficult for you
  • My hubby & I have a 2 door car & when our daughter was first born it wasn't too bad except for when I wanted to ride back there by her on longer trips - we had to take an emergency road trip to see a family member who was passing... then it was terrrrrible. It also gets worse the heavier they get & kills your back! And believe me, that happens quick! I agree with whoever said wait until you're in the safety zone, then buy a bigger car- but its never too early to start saving up & shopping around!
  • I had a two door car and believe me when I say I hated it. Lol. I sold mine and now looking for a four door car. I never want to struggle with putting a car seat in and out of a car again..LOL.
  • I guess if you have the finances to be able to purchase a new four door car then go for it. I do not have the finances as well as we purchased our car from a friend who thought it was beyond repair but my fiance is a mechanic so he fixed it in no time, so we have a really nice newer car that we spent less than $1,000 on. Plus I just really don't want the hassle of going car shopping on top of being pregnant. So were just gonna wait till we have a second child to purchase a new vehicle.

If I were you I'd do a test like the previous person mentioned and figure out what will work for you.
  • I'm weighing this very question out myself right now. I have a mustang I love but I know it will be a pain getting a baby in & out with the huge doors! My husband has a crossover SUV, but with our work schedules we'll both be driving the baby regularly. It's complicated and I want it fixed now ;-)
  • The rim on my car got bent so I had to use my husbands camaro...it was hell. Once baby is of any weight u strain ur back getting car seat n and out. Not saying it wasn't doable but def having the two experiences made me never wanna use that car with the baby again. Those car seats r heavy enuff just walking with
  • I had a mustang when we found out I was pregnant and thst was my first car and I LOVED it, but the back seat is sooooooo small and impossible to get to so we sold out and bought a older model 4 door civic. I strongly recommend it! It also took my car insurance from bein 130 by myself to 45 for me,and my husband. As earlier mentioned,WE dont have extra finances to afford a new car,but what we did actually gave us an extra grand. You can defiantly find a nice car thats reliable for cheap,we did.
  • A 2 door car isn't too bad when you're just clicking a bucket with a strapped in baby into a base. When you're strapping a child into a car seat in the back (especially rear facing), it's a problem.
  • Well I went through this as well except I had a 2 door truck ...... I bought a 4 door car and then ended up preggo again. I had no choice but to get a van....It was a waste of money to get the 4 door car cause 2 car seats plus diaper bags and no room for anything if I had to take a stroller along.....please think about if you plan on more kids or not.....will make a difference. I went. Back to a 4 door a few years back but my kids are 9 and 10 thanking god I still have my van as I found out I am expecting.....due on sept 17
  • I liked my two door but I only had one kid back then. Back then I wished I didn't switch to a four door (on my fourth now so I like the four door). If this if your first kid I'd check to see if the carseat easily fits back there and keep it for awhile longer:)
  • I had a brand new car and then got pregnant it was a two door after we had our daughter u couldn't drive it any more the seats wouldn't go up to get her carrier out to put the carrier in we had to put it side ways and really push it to get it through it was a pain and the stroller wouldn't fit in the trunk we had to sell the car
