Help..advice needed plz!

My son is a week and a half old and I've been breastfeeding but also supplementing with formula b/c he lost 10% of birth weight and docs didn't want him to lose more. At first my boobs seemed to be full all the time and now they feel pretty normal (like they're empty?) Is this how they're supposed to feel? He eats every 2-4 hrs but I'm not sure if he's getting enough b/c he doesn't seem satisfied. Also, he has not pooped in a day and a half! Is that normal? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanx!

    Yeah, your body knows how much milk it should be producing now. It over produces the first week because your body didn't know how many babies you had. But now it sees how much milk your baby eats, it knows.
    As for the poop, I've heard it is normal as long as it doesn't go over a week I think. I wouldn't worry about it that much. :D

    I know if you don't strictly breastfeed and don't pump in between, your milk supply will go down. Your body only makes what it thinks it needs so if your only breastfeeding a little bit each day... It will only make a little bit each day. Also, engorgment occurs when your milk first comes in and then subsides so you may just be experiencing that!! Every 2-4hrs is normal but he should be feeding 10-15mins on each breast. As for him pooping, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure breastfed babies don't go as much because they digest more of their food. I would keep an eye on it though and make sure he doesn't go much longer without having one!! :)

    @marysue @stbmilitarybrat thanx ladies! This is my 2nd child but first time breastfeeding so I wasn't too sure. Is there any way to increase my supply if he still doesnt seem to be getting enough? Or should I not be worried about that?

    Also additional pumping right after a feeding will help increase your supply.

    I am breaking my vow of staying away from pregly, but @ashleyfew is right. If he is staying on long enough and you hear gulping sounds he is getting enough. Adrian is 5 months and only weighs 12 lbs. but she is so active and eats every two hours and I know there is milk in there. Good Luck.

    His sleep patterns are all over the place..sometimes it's an hour, sometimes its 6! Should I be waking him to feed and keep a schedule? Or will those long hours in between affect my supply? I have a pump but I'm waiting on replacement tubing so for now I can't pump.. @ashleyfew @brendalou

    Your welcome :) but I was told NEVER wake a sleeping baby. If you feel full this would be the perfect opportunity to pump. Oh nevermind when you geta pump then pump. You will want to get your baby on a schedule at about 3 months, at this point it would be too early. You could end up making it so your baby wont sleep at all during the day, by making him so tired.

    @krazymomofadrian I always thought that if the baby is hungry he'll wake up, I just don't want those gaps when he does sleep ( :D ) to affect my supply..I definitely will start pumping as soon as I can! Thank u again! :)
