pumping milk questions!

edited September 2011 in Breastfeeding
Will my milk dry up if I only pump and feed my baby with a bottle? Because my baby will eat for an hour and then start not stay latched on but still act starving so I just get way too frustrated and start crying everytine I try to feed him.

  • I have exclusively pumped for 12 weeks and counting
  • I know people who have pumped only to feed their babies. Make sure you are pumping regularly to keep supply up. if you skip or don't have a regular schedule it will be harder to keep up.
  • I just pump and feed my b.m. from the bottle I find it so much easier!! Because I too, was having problems with him still being hungry after an hour of b.f. But now since I just pump my Boobs get fuller faster and I have to pump more often which I guess isn't a bad thing since in just in one night I'm two bottles ahead. And plan on getting so far ahead that ill get to freeze some (hopefully) .
  • Okay thanks so much for answering!! Can I mix milk? Like if I pump into the bottle and only get 3oz can I add the milk that I pump next time into that same bottle so that I don't have 10 bottles with only 3oz each in them in the fridge?
  • He may just be wanting to nurse for comfort. Should take only 15 minutes to empty a breast. My baby wants to nurse all freakin day. Sometimes I pump and mix rice cereal with it or just give her formula. She over eats and has reflux. when she cries to nurse and I know shes full I try to change the scenery for her. Bouncy seat, swing, stroller or lay her on my bed. Sometimes I force the pacifier on her even tho she doesn't want it. She eventually gives in and sucks it.
  • If your going to exclusively pump u should educate yourself online about milk storage, also I have the lanolin storage bags and they have guidelines for storage on the packaging
