Question about going in to labor and dilation?

Right now am 39.5 weeks pregnant and last week when i was checked i still wasent dilated but my cervix was soft. I was wondering if any of you ladies just went in to labor a fw days after knowing that you havent even dilated yet?

    i was 1 cm dilated and a little soft until my water broke then i progressed really fast i was 39wks 6 days that morning lol

    have you been walking or anything. all i did was walk once a week my last 2 weeks but it got my baby to drop real low

    No personal experience here quite yet, but I do know that how much you're dilated and effaced really has no bearing on when you'll go into labor. You could be 1cm and barely effaced yet go into labor a few hours later...and vice versa (be 3cm and 50% effaced but be stuck there for weeks). You just never know when they'll appear. ;)

    I was checked at 37 weeks and I was 1cm dilated 0% effaced was stuck like that for 2 weeks...had an appt at 40+4 still the same...was checked 2 days later and was still 1cm but 90% effaced. My water broke on its own early in the morning the day I was being induced (41+3); when they checked me before starting the pitocin I was still 1cm and 90% effaced. My labor slowly but surely progressed once I had the pitocin (took 4 hrs 45 mins to get from 1cm-4cm), but once I got my epidural at 4cm I went from 4-9 in an hour. But like @heibes said you could be barely dilated/effaced and go into labor a few hrs later. Just depends on baby :-)

    I was at 2cm for 3m before my son desided to come on his duedate. Then he desided to come way to fast lol

    I'm 39+5 today and in UK and they refuse to even check us here until overdue. I could be 3cm for all I know :-S think no matter what its a case of when they wanna come, they come... regardless of whether your body is as prepared as it could be :-) ! ##** lots of labour dust **## kinda hoping I start soon too :-) x
