C-Section in 7 days ... what should i expect?

edited September 2011 in Third Trimester
2nd baby ....... My little boy is breech so my doctor is performing a c-section. Who can give me some advice on what to expect ? I am so afraid of pain as well as walking around with a huge cut on my abdomen... Will I be able to move about okay ? Will I be on pain medication that will stop me from breast feeding ? Will I hold him when he is out ? My husband will be there but is scared just like me.

  • You will still be able to breastfeed even with the pain meds. You won't get to be the first to hold him.. they will give him to your husband first then once you are stitched back up and moved to your room you will get to hold baby. As for the scar, its not a huge one. My mom had a c-section and I've never even noticed her scar. The earlier you get up and moving, the easier it is to move around as you continue to heal. It will be painful at first (some experience more pain than others) but get moving as soon as possible.

    Good luck!!!
  • Just relax. The best advice I give anyone is to get up and walk as soon as they let you. It helps with the healing. The cut is small...you can barely see my scar from 3 yrs ago. The pain meds they give you should be fine with breastfeeding...mine were. You won't be able to hold him right away. They will show him to you, then once you get to recovery, he should be able to go with you. Everything will be fine!
  • I see you beautiful picture ... I am naming my little boy Jack too !! Such a cute name !
  • Thank you! It was hard coming up with a middle name that sounded good with Jack

  • I had a csection in june and it wasnt planned! I was so scared but honestly it was fine! I was up and walking the mornin after havin my baby! I had hom at 11pm! The scar isnt big and even now u cn hardly see mine (my surgeon was very neat and tidy) i was lucky and only had one lot of pain meds after and that was all! My vest advice would be wear baggy clothes so it doesnt rub and keep it clean afyerwards so u dont get it infected! I will be fine good luck:-)
  • Thank you ladies !
  • Everything will be fine I'm having my 2nd one in 10 days nervous but happy... just walk as soon as they tell you . Good luck
  • I was holding baby within 20-30minutes after my c-section in the recovery room. You will be in pain but don't be afraid to ask for pain medication. & the Medication will not interfere w/breastfeeding, its perfectly fine to take it it won't hurt baby
  • Has your doctor mentioned turning the baby externally? Mine is breech also so I have been reading up on ways to turn him if he doesn't turn himself. It can be done externally and internally. Though I am not sure I am up for the internal version
  • She has, however; she said those methods are high risk because it can cause the placenta to detach and then there will be more complications then needed. I didn't what go go through that.
