2Week old with Eye Gunk??

edited September 2011 in Babies Health
My two week old daughter (born on the 12th) has eye goo/gunk all day yesterday so I kept a warm wash cloth on it, but today it has been a lot worse. She has no other signs of being sick or anything. She was a month early though and spent a week in the Nicu, so I'm praying it is nothing to worry about.
I have her a doctor appointment for tomorrow morning because they were full today, but do you guys know any reason her eye is like this? Any suggestions would help. Thanks so much!

  • My step daughter have last week she's 3 yo and the warm rags was all the she needs last about a week now she like like nothing happened
  • My cousins son gets that in one eye I think its allergies doctors say no but it comes and goes so what else could it be
  • Not sure, maybe a clogged tear duct?
    Here is a bump
  • I don't think its anything to worry about, my 2 and a half week old had it and his pedi didn't seem at all concerned. although she didn't say why he had it, she just said it should go away. i'd keep using the warm wash cloth to clean it :)
  • The best thing for that is breast milk...if you are a breast feed mom u can use some drop.of milk or find someone who breastfeed...belive me...breast milk is a miracle!!!!!! Good luck
  • Its a cloged duct.. Breast milk works wonders.. My lil guy had a mild case
  • Clogged tear ducted wipe with warm rag and massage down the side of her nose to help open them up my doctor told me it isn't anything to worry about in till there about 9 months if it isn't fix by then then they worry
  • Yeah sounds like a blocked tear duct to me, my son had it recur about 4 times in his first 3-4 months, I took him to the doctors and was prescribed eye drops to clear it up. To bathe the eye you should use clean cotton wool balls dipped in cool boiled water and go from the inside and wipe across to the outside, then get a fresh piece and repeat till it is all gone
  • All the women in my family have always used chamomile tea drops.. It works wonders!!!
  • My son had this when born i used boiled water (cooled down) with salt in and used small pieces of cotton wool u have to make sure u only use each piece once so that u dont spred the infection and make sure u wipe the eye from by the nose outwards! I did this for about 2/3 days and ot cleared up! Worth a go
  • My son does has that, his doctor says it is a clogged tear duct. I have to clean it with a warm wash cloth and massage the duct with my pinky.
  • You can also put a tiny bit of johnson and johnson baby shampoo and warm water on a cotton ball.

Thanks everybody. The doctor I saw last week just told me to keep a warm washcloth on it daily but that it is probably a blocked tear duct and that if it didn't open on it's own that she would need surgery at 6 months:( anybody have a baby that have to have surgery because of it??
  • Put the warm washcloth and put a lil of pressure like you poping a pimple not to much just a lil bit and you will see like a pimple or blood coming out so do it again and again I'll come unclog
