36w appt today. Question!!

edited September 2011 in Third Trimester
I am 36w 2d. at appt last week my cervix had shortened and i had been having frequent BH. Since then, i have been having BH regularly. At appt today she nurse came in to check heartbeat and i was having BH at that time. Then when Dr. came in i had another one while she was checking me. She said I am 1cm dilated and 50% effaced and that she doesnt expect anything to happen for about a week but after that anytime is possible. BTW. I have been measuring 3 weeks ahead since they started measuring me and i didnt know the date of my last menstrual period so they just did an ultrasound to check gestation age.

Here is my question. Have any of you ladies been dilated at 36 weeks and if so how much and how long after did you go into labor? Is it likely to stay 1cm dilated for weeks?

I am trying to stay patient and not get over excited but it is hard!

  • I was 1cm at 30 weeks.. Im 34 weeks now and have no idea what im at now.. But baby is still in there. :)
  • Yeah it's possible to get stuck at any dilation unfortunately... I was 2cm at 36weeks, & at 37weeks I was 2-3cm so... I'm just about 38weeks now & pretty sure things haven't changed down there but won't know til Tuesday.
  • I was at 1 at 32 wit my last I got induced at 39 I was a 3 then
  • fooey. Ok thanks ladies.
  • To all three of you: did the doctor say similar things to what she told me?

  • No because it would be way to early for me. There really isnt anyway to tell if your going to go into labor soon until it happens.
  • I don't think many drs try to guess when your baby will come based on dilation & effacement because that's all it is... a guess. It could be that day, or it could be weeks from now. Unfortunately they're not telltale signs that labor is right around the corner, it sucks. :(
  • ok i need to calm myself and try not to get so psyched.
  • I'm nearly 38 weeks and have been stuck at 1 cm since 35 weeks. No sign of labor anytime soon :-?
  • urrgggg this is not what i wanted to hear. lol...
@misstiff have you been having regular BH?
  • Somewhat, more pressure than BH. I thought for sure at my appointment today, I'd be at least a 2 but unfortunately, no :-(( I am gonna walk to the end of the world and back to get this little girl out!
  • well omg... i need to take my mind off this i think. lol
  • No I was still on labor stopping meds so i wasn't progressing they didn't put me off them till 37 wks
  • Lol yeah I feel crappy for getting so excited.. Lol at 35 week ultrasound they showed me my cervix was shortened about 70 or 80 percent. The next week I dilated to a 2. Then next week a 3 then next week a 3.5 with contractions on the monitor saying I'm contracting every 5 mins and they want me to come to the hospital when I start feeling it but I dont wanna go in till I'm hunched over in pain. They keep telling me they expect me to give birth any second but I'm still sitting here.... -.- bh's I have had for a LONG time. Bh's arent anything or mean anything unless they change your cervix. ugh! wish I hadn't gotten so excited..
  • That's how I feel. I have been having VHS for about 4hours. About every 5 -8 mins and have had back pain for about 2 he's now...but I feel like I am over reacting. Or something. Dr told me to time them. Ugh I feel silly. @honestlyhopeful
  • LOL! VHS. OMG. Too funny I meant. Bhs
  • Danger this phone. 2 hrs*** now
  • Haha! I knew what you meant (; but at least you're feeling pain! This is the only timw in my life I wanna feel the pain! I want my baby here ); my doctor thinks I'm one of the very few who dont feel my early labor pains. They show up on the monitor and my cervix is changing with them tho! Let me know if these pains you're feeling are the real deal!! (: My mom had me time mine but its just so all over the place that I'm gunna wait till I feel the pain );
  • I'm trying to wait too. I'm only 36w. But I wonder if I am really further along. Well good luck to you! @honestlyhopeful
  • Oh yeah forgot to tell you I didn't know the date of my last period so they made me guess a date then checked the ultrasound for gestational age as well lol. Babies have growth spurts like 3 or 4 weeks ahead. I seen lots of posts on here about that. I guess we just have to sit and wait for our babies to come out /: but good luck to you too!
