ok i need to get this off my chest...

So I breastfeed my son he is 2 weeks old tomorrow and I am having the hardest time. I cry because it hurts sometimes so I pump and feed him with a bottle but I feel like I'm doing extra work. I'm so frusterated and everyone keeps saying it will get easier but when?! I'm so tired all I wanna do is sleep and not wake up cuz my boobs hurt so bad. My husband gives him the milk I pumped and put in the fridge at night but I still wake up to pump because my boobs hurt so bad. And now my boobs are huge and I hate them. I can't wear my own clothes because of my boobs and I just cry because I am so depressed. I want my old boobs back!
Breastfeeding is just so hard and I spent a ton of money on it and I feel like I'm a failure and letting everyone down but I don't know how much longer I can keep doing it :-(

  • I've been having a hard time too. If you can't do it anymore don't. You tried and he got the best stuff he needs but you need to come first too and if you're miserable its not worth it. You can sell the pump online craigs list or something and you might not get full price but something and do formula. If formula wasn't good for babies it wouldn't be sold. Good luck I hope it gets better. Take care of you too. You're not a failure or letting anyone down.
  • @samantha Thanks for listening! its just so frusterating and everyone just says it will get easier and its not.
  • The first 3 weeks are the hardest! if you can hang in at least one more week it will get better! my boobs don't hurt anymore and they're not filling up as much my baby is almost 4 weeks. also if you don't feed directly from the breast you will prolong the nipple pain.

don't feel bad tho if you have to quit. you have to keep yourself happy too!
  • PS my nipples were cracked and bleeding and i would cry almost every time too
  • @heyitsme I am going to try to get to at least a month because thats when I start school. its only for an hour a day but we will see how it goes and kind of go from there. If I can make it another 3 weeks lol
  • I know how you feel. I cried all day yesterday over it and Brody is only 3 days old I thought I can't do this I'm a failure. I got a nipple shield to help with his latching and its helped so much I use the cream all day long because I am so sore and they are bleeding and cracked. I'm waiting till it gets better too but you need to come first because and unhappy mom is an unhappy baby.

  • Sorry for double post.
  • @Samantha does the cream work for you? I don't feel like it does anything?
  • It helps moisten em and I use it a lot not just after feeding. Sometimes before feeding. I was also told to use breast milk just rub it on and that's actually helping heal the nipple not just soothe. I also took a hot bath to help and used a hot rag on my boobs I felt some relief.
  • With my sons I had the hardest time getting them to latch on. Try to make sure your baby opens their mouth super wide and grasps on to the whole aereola not just the nipple. Just the nipple hurts like hell! If your able to contact a lactation consultant and they may be able to help. Docs say its not supposed to hurt but anyone whoss tried it will say otherwise. I hooked up my breast pump a few days ago (I'm due in 2 weeks) and man I forgot how uncomfortable they are. Good luck dear I hope it gets easier!
  • I couldn't feed my son he refused to latch so I pumped for a month. My daughter is now 3 days old and my milk is coming in and it hurts like hell and im getting very sore nipples. I dont know if you can get them where you are but im using gel breast pads and they are so soothing and help healing because they help keep the moisture in
  • Try pumping and formula.. also put the lamanolin on.. it helps.. i never had that problem... Because i didnt bf exclusively..

Skin to skin contact. Take off all of baby's clothes (except diaper) and all of yours above the waist. Make sure as much of baby's skin as you can get is touching yours while feeding. To help nipples - cream but also as much air and sunlight as possible. Stay topless for a while at home! The engorgement will also pass :)
  • @tinka1326 do gel pads help and how much r they? I'm pretty sure I have seen them in stores
  • I just use breast milk on my nipples the lactation nurse told me it was the best so just squeeze a little out and rub it around and let it dry I use washable breast pads because the paper ones stuck to me and hurt to take off my daughter is six weeks today and trust me it does get easier but now I'm having trouble keeping up my milk supply for her so just keep pumping and your baby will catch up to u good luck Hun that was my mistake not pumping and losing my supply
  • @momof22be how many washable ones come in a box? The throw away ones stick to me also n I have to sometimes peal it off
  • I got 30 for free I just paid shipping got $10 from uddercovers.com and used a promo code breastfeeding. ;) I still haven't opened some I have about 5 pairs open and when they wear out ill start opening the rest. :)
  • Oh and ps once he batches up to u and starts to need more than u produce don't give him formula to suplemant let your body make the milk on its own he may seem hungrier for a bit but try pumping in between feedings to help boost your supply I know u won't need that info for a while but just thought id share
  • For a pack of 12 was about $7 they have kept my nipples from cracking. Im still pretty sore and the first few seconds of latching on feel like im being stabbed lol but it is getting better as she learns how to get on without all the fussing first
  • My lo is 3wks old and we are ebf so here's what I've learned and my experience. Its very hard but so worth it. I was in soo much pain I wanted to give up and I dreaded every feeding but now its better. Get a nipple shield and it will help you heal. Also get bag balm its for cow udders bbut iit works wonders put it on after every feeding. My nipples were cracked bleeding and scabbed I used the shield and the bag balm for 2days and I feel so much better I don't even need the shield anymore. Also you lo will go through a growth spurt around 3wks and will constantly be attached to the boob, that's normal do not supplement just let them feed they do that to bring u up your supply. Sometimes it gets hard for me and my lo fights eating and takes awhile for a feed but its what I want to do and it really does get easier and is worth it. Also you can call la leche league they will help you for free they helped me when my milk came in and my lo wouldn't eat and gave me advice for the future call them!! If you really want to bf you can do it it hard but I promise it gets easier.
  • Also make sure to cream up your nipples before you use a breastpad that's why they're sticking. If I were you I would get a shield and quit pumping b/c a lot of the time it can affect milk supply baby is more efficient at getting out milk than a pump.
  • @momof22be I have a ton of milk already pumped so he doesnt get formula. the hospital gave him some at birth becuase they said He was losing to much weight. I wonder if they still have that promo code. I will have to try it!
  • Yea I'm sure they do I just got mine two weeks ago. :)

The hospital had me give her formula because of weightloss and jhondas too that's good though that u have so much stored
  • @Diverwfe I have strictly breastfed today and it is slowly getting easier!

@everyone thank you so much for your help today has been a pretty good day so far lol. had a little bit of pain but I would just take him off and try again and he would eventually get it! I am using the cream like crazy now and it is also helping.
  • @momof22be I am ordering mine now! thank you!
  • I'm telling ya get that shield andafter a few days you feel 10x better. And that bag balm saved me! I can't believe two days ago I was in tears and dreading every feeding.
  • The gel pads and lanolin worked great for me to help soothe, but breast milk straight up heals them in a couple of days if they are cracked scabbed or bleeding!! skin to skin helps a lot as well. Are you having a hard time getting him to latch properly? or is it just the pain? The first 3 weeks are pretty hard not gonna lie, it seems like it will never get better, but it really does!! I promise!!
