ok mamas. seriously lets talk baby poop

Ok mamas, what's the longest that your baby has gone without doing a poo? And what does it mean? It has been 5 days now but my baby does not seem to be in any distress but just farting. This is weird!

    Is baby breastfed? Babies can go a few days without pooping and it be okay but I'm not sure how many days is too long. 5 seems like a long time. I know breastfed babies poop a lot less but I find that strange because I'm LO is BF and she poops like 6 times a day.

    5 days i think is the max you can allow baby to go unassisted.. try a suppository

    Bf babies can go up to a week without pooping! But if your worried call your doctor. Mine sometimes goes 4 times a day and then out of no where she will poop once a week. Usaly when sje has a growth spourt(sp) cause there isnt much waste from breast milk

    Oh ok I see, it really baffles me. I think I will see my gp about this. He is not in any distress or even trying to poop so that's strange and yes he is strictly breast fed. Thanks ladies for ur help

    I exclusively breast feed and its about once every 5 days although it has varied too but as long as his stomach is not hard and hes not in pain I would not worry too much and if I think he needs one I lay him down flat and cycle his legs and he normally explodes lol :)

    @tashalou yeah his stomach is not hard at all and he is not in any pain but how long is too long would you say

    I think I would worry anytime after a week to be honest but hes never gone more than that yet, but if he starts grunting in the day and farting then I quickly take his nappy off and lift his legs in the air and it really helps although I have been hit before lol so I hold his nappy as a barrier now : D

    My daughters Dr said its normal. She said one time her son went 9 days and was fine. My daughter has only gone about 8 hours without pooping lol she's a poop machine.

    I mix prune juice by gerber with water it works for my son

    10 days is actually the longest they can go without pooping, my pediatrician told me so dont worry too much. I was freaking out too when my baby did not poop for a few days.

    My doctor said it was ok but only use when needed not everyday

    My friend gave her daughter an oz of cooled boiled water which worked, it was a horrific mess!!

    I would ask the doctor before giving a newborn any straight water since that's strictly prohibited.
