edited November 2011 in Postpartum Health
I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy on 11-1-11 and when i came home from the hospital i noticed that my ankles were huge and my feet are also swollen. Just wanna kno how many of u have experienced this and how long did it last?

  • i did and it went away a few days after i got home. Just make sure to try and stay off ur feet. put them up on a pillow and relax as much as you can! I FREAKED out at first but now theyre back to normal and skinny again lol dont worry
  • All of my body was swollen feet hands legs belly I was disappointed getting on a scale 4 or 5 days post partum because I was only like 5lb down from the weight I went into hospital with but a few days later I realized my ankles were normal and jumping on a scaleagain I was down a total of 25lbs!! Don't worry it will be normal soon!
  • I had my baby 10-31 and my feet and ankles are the same way. They said its from all the fluid given at the hospital and to drink plenty of water and put your feet up. I hope the swelling goes down soon...my feet jiggle as I walk. Lol
  • Mine were like that after I had my daughter from all the fluid they give at the hospital. Try to stay off them as much as you can ( I know that's difficult with a newborn)
  • Mine were like that for about a week. They were HUGE!!
  • My legs, ankles & feet were HUGE about 3hrs after I had my c-section from all the fluids they gave me during my induction (30+hrs). It last about 2 1/2-3weeks for me. My advice- stay off of them as much as possible. GL :)
  • I couldn't even flex my ankles they were so swollen, it was painful! I thought it was excessive, but dr said it was fine. It took me 3 weeks and then BAM suddenly it was normal :)
  • If your not wanting to just deal with the pain, I suggest going to walmart for these socks called ted hose or compression socks!! I've been swollen for weeks and I use these and even though my feet still feel bruised all over, they still help a bunch! Goodluck

Oh and the socks are in a small box by the foot care isle in pharmacy. Ask to find them. Also they are very hard to get on. But so worth it!
  • Mine were swollen too, it probably lasted about a week.
  • Check blood pressure please mine went up a week after delivery, I ended up back in hospital on magnesium to get blood pressure under control by the time I was admitted it was 183/117
  • I remember that phase, one ankle was bigger than the other lol it just looked soo wrong. It took like 3-4 days before my ankles/feet looked normal again.. Just make sure you drink a lot of water. Rest when you can and prop your legs up...try to stay off your feet at first. Oh and make sure you go pee everytime you feel like you need to, because that helps flush that fluid out of your body quicker. Hope it gets better soon :)
