Signs of acid reflux?

edited December 2011 in Babies Health
My new baby spits up constantly, wakes up screaming like in pain, what sounds like "wet burps", hiccups a lot, constantly seems hungry even after feedings, always wants to be held, difficult to get him to burp and very fussy. My SIL says its acid reflux (her son had it). What do you think & what might help?

  • I don't know much about acid reflux, but do you bf or formula feed? If bf, maybe you're eating something that disagrees with him, or maybe its the formula you're using. Have you talked to your doctor about it? My little nephew was colicky (sp?) my sil used gripe water and said it worked for him. Maybe try baby gas drops (mylecon), it could just be gas which is very painful for little ones.
  • I agree with @Momof4gregory
Hiccups, spit up and wet burps all sound like signs of acid reflux but the screaming like he's in pain sounds like something more than that. Try gas drops, gripe water and definitely call the doctor. Good luck! I hope he feels better and that it all gets worked out!
  • It sounds like reflux. Make an appointment with the dr, cause they can give him medicine for it. My daughter was in pain like that too and she ended up losing a lot of weight cause he didn't wanna eat. All she did was cry :-(
  • Ive been using gas drops and yes, I bottlefeed Similac advance. He will literally throw up like half his bottle, and it scares me seeing THAT MUCH come up at once.
  • I havent talked to the dr yet. I have to take him tomorrow for a routine weight check, ill ask then @momof4gregory
  • My son was on similac advance they changed him to similac sensitive & same thing he would projectile vomit. Well he ended up having a milk allergy now he's on enfamil nutramigen. & he's good lol call her pedi
  • @txmommmy93011 im hoping its just the type of formula. My nephew had reflux and it was so hard on him & my SIL
  • I breastfed for a week & he was projectile vomiting so I switched to formula. My pedi was an old lady who does NOT care & didn't even try to help me figure out what was wrong. I switched & that's when I found out he had a milk allergy. You should call his pedi asap. I hope it's not reflux also.
  • My daughter had all those symptoms. Went to the doc and sure enough she has acid reflux. The doc gave her a script and she's been a happy baby since
  • @graciesmomma what did they give her for it?
  • My boy has reflux and colic yours sounds the same. I was worried that he was throwing up so much but someone said to think how bad a tiny bit of milk spilt on a table would look and think how much baby actually eats, prob not really bringing much up at all. Mine has stopped the sick now he has gaviscon which makes his milk more solid x
  • @DavidnAadynsMama they gave her ranitidine.
  • I didn't read all the comments but I was in the same situation my son will do the same thing when he was about a month and a half I used mommies bliss and it worked for him. It's gripe water & works instantly. good luck & I hope your Lo feels better ASAP :)
