I've never had one but during my high school years I interned in that department and assisted.
Then put you breast on this platform and then flatten it as much as possible between two boards. It doesn't hurt but it "could" be uncomfortable.
When you breast feed you can't get it done because the milk glands are in the way and plus it radiated the milk. But you can always get a sonogram done on your breast. It's no where as good but at least its something.
