Job interview... but 2 months pregnant ...

edited January 2011 in Pregnant
Ive just recieved a letter asking for me to attend an interview at the local play center working with kids. The problem is, if i tell them im pregnant would it make them not want to hire me as in a few months i'll need to be on maternity leave?
I dont know whether to tell them or not, and ideas? :S

  • Don't tell them. They cannot not hire you because you are pregnant. That would be discrimination. If they offer you the position, I might tell them at that point. At least you wont be taking any chances and they can't change their mind unless they want a lawsuit!! I also have an interview and I don't plan on saying anything, only 5 weeks though. Its definitely hard bc you feel like you are lying or being deceitful, and I'm definitely not one to play that game. So scary. Good luck to you! Hope you get it!! Xo :)
  • don't tell them. why even take the chance? I'm sure u need the job. if ur showing at all, this early in ur pregnancy shouldn't b too hard to cover up. good luck with ur pregnancy and what ever u decide?
  • Thanks, thats a great idea :) its not many hours per week eithe ri dont think..i cant actually remember as i applied for it sooo long ago lol well i will be 2 months tomoz but its close enough :) this last week has gone sooooooooo fast :O
Gd luck with your interview too, and i hope you get it! :)

  • Yes i do need the job as before i knew i was preg' i quit my last job as a nanny as i wasnt caring much for the child but being treated like a skivi for her mum, and my fiance is still in college but trying so hard to find work..we dont even have a place together yet :/
  • then u have to do what u have to do to take care of that child. go for that job with all u got. later on down the line pretend like u just found out so they don't pass judgement on u. it is illegal for them to discriminate against u but that's not to say that they wont and find another reason not to hire u. goodluck!!
  • Don't tell them. I have always been turned down for positions i am well qualified for due to my pregnancy. They tell me to come back after the baby is born, but the position is filled.
  • I was even fired from my last job because i was 38 weeks pregnant. Id been there for two years.
  • omg O.O... i hope i dont mess my interview up :/ i'll just have to remember no to tell them.
  • You wont mess it up. You can do it! Get that job, you know it's right for you!
  • Definitely do not tell them. I made that mistake with my first pregnancy. Interview was going great...she was talking as if I already had the job. Then I told her and I never heard back. You have to do what's best for you and the babe. If you need a job do what you've got to do to get it. Good luck!
  • Thanks everyone for all the advice and support :) i will do my best and do whats right for this baby :) im still to find out if everythings ok with the baby yet, hopefully have an appointment and scan really soon, as thats not helping me as i worry a lot.
