I never had that problem. From the very day I brought him home, I kept it light in the house during the day and had noises. At night, I kept it dark and quiet.
I don't think I really had a problem with that. During the day it was light and noisey and during the night it was dark with just a night light so I could see to check on him. He got up to eat and get changed at night but then always went back to sleep. My oldest never had a sleeping problem and my youngest almost four months now sleeps from 8pm to 7am. I had both of them on a schedule early, kind of worked with the schedule they already set them selves and made it work for me but was never too strict with it bc they are still learning.
