Has anyone had a water birth? I hear water births are more calm and relaxed...im thinking of maybe having a water birth, this would be my 4th child my husband isnt very sure of it..but I have been watching videos and reading about water births and it sounds beautiful to be able to relax ur body in warm water and take ur time....what do u ladies think??

  • I think if its ur 4th birth it should run pretty smooth anyway I would love a water birth but I think the risk of bub getting water in there lungs is 2 gr8 but its up.2 u
  • They won't get water in there lungs because they won't breath till they hit air our the umbilical cord is cut.

I want to do a water birth but my dr only delivers at the hospital and they don't do water births at my hospital, I'll be able to labor in the tub though.
  • Well babys dont breath or swallow n e of the water do to the fact a baby is still breathing by the umbelicul cord while its head is underwater...when the umbelicul (however u spell it) cord reaches the suface it no longer helps the baby so the baby breaths n uses his body alone for the first time...weird I know hard to explain I just learned about it on a pregnancy site.
  • Idk I soooo want to but im still nervouse about it...decisions desicions??
  • my hospital doesnt do them either so there must be a reason maybe ur dr would be good 2 consult about.it my.frienf had a very successful watet birth no.tearing got out of the bath n passed out on the floor, poor girl she said it was good but wouldnt do it again I dunno ill atop talking gotta charge phone n e way n I'm probsbly driving.u nuts lol
  • Hahaha! No ur not idk im probably nuts for wanting a water birth...lol!
  • Babies can swim on there own up to 6 mnth i think and was for under water its amazin the babies lungs shut off from lettin the water in and the baby moves like swimmin . I learnt this in childcare. Im plannin on a water birth for my first and i wouldnt say its scary . Since the bby can swim up to a certain age u cud throw your bvy into a swimmin pool and itll swim uve got t see it to believe it though
  • I want a water birth! Seeing my midwife Monday so chatting to her about it then!
  • I think u should go with a water birth cause I want a water birth as well but I dnt know if they r expensive? Since I only have medical
  • A lot of hospitals don't do them because they just don't have the set up. Most water births are done through midwives at home or a birthing center.
  • My hospital only allows labor in their whirlpools, not birth, but when I looked up the written policy, it doesn't spell it out specifically. (I'm an employee there, so I was able 2 find the actual written policies) I see my OB next week & I'll b pressuring her for a real answer on why it's supposedly not allowed. I'm a bit peeved because the only RN midwives in town deliver at this hospital. I could go 2 a birth center, but the ones in my town don't have any docs or NP's as back up. They just have lay midwives.
  • I did a water birth for my 2nd child it was amazing! There are not alot of. Hospitals that will allow you to do one. I had to go to a hosp an hr away from my home. Also having a midwife is key esp if hubby isn't fully on board. I would recommend a midwife who is certified in hypno-birthing techniques. I took the hypno-birthing classed thru most of my pregnancy & practiced at home on a regular basis. Doing a water birth or any kind of med free birth takes alot of planning & as silly as it sounds practice...good luck :)
  • I have had both my kids natural and I labored in the water both times. Sssooooo nice! I would highly recommend it. It couldn't push well in the water so I got out for that. But I will do the same with this one, and look forward to it. Watch the business of being born. Great movie
  • Pregnant in america was another good one...kinda scared me about hospitals tho! Ultimately you have to just go with whatever you feel will be the most comfortable experience for you and baby. Some people wanna be at home, some feel better at a hospital or birthing center. My hospital has a "low intervention" maternity wing, im thinking about that as an option.
