my daughters hands smell bad!

edited February 2012 in Babies
For the past 3/4 days ive been noticing a smell on my daughter thats a mixture between milk thats gone bad and sweat. At first i thought it was coming from behind her ears or under her chin but the smell is actually on her hands. i bathe her every night as part of her bedtime routine and ive just now bathed her, paid special attention to her hands and the smell is STILL there! shes only 3 months n nothing has changed that could cause it, so im wracking my brain wondering what the hell this is??!! i want my sweet smelling bubby back!

    bump?
  • try lotion every hour or so.
  • @ripkaydence, i have but nothing is getting rid of it! gonna see how it goes for a coupla days and if its still there il make a drs appointment
  • LOL! I know exactly how gross that is! My sons hands are the same way! He is 3 1/2 months right now & I've been noticing since about 2months when he started putting his hands in his mouth a lot. I just scrub them down multiple times when he's getting a bath especially between the fingers & in the palm of the hand, & wiping them with wipes a couple times during the day. Sometimes the smell still lingers which is insane but but's not nearly as potent as it was lol. I use the aveeno baby wash for sensitive skin, the soap I used before that did nothing for the smell which was shocking because the other one was scented & this one is not. & make sure her hands are dry after her bath & after you wipe them down because the moister will get trapped inside her fist & they will still smell. Oh, & also make sure her nails are always maintained because the funk can get trapped under her nailbeds too.
  • @momma_tiffay @ta2edblondie yeah i think that must be it, because she does put her hands in her mouth a lot, although shes been doing that for a while and ive only just started noticing the smell... im using simple baby wash atm (rubbish) because Evies skin is quite sensitive but the aveeno lotion is great so il have to get the bath oil and give it a try, and from now on shes getting her hands washed loads, that stinks gotta go : -)
  • Same with my son...he is 3months. He is teething and always chewing on his hands and then keeps them clenched in fists. So between slobber and sweat I am always washing his hands. But Ive never had the smell linger after washing them.
  • @joshneviesmum, yeah my babies skin is really sensitive too that is why I use the sensitve baby wash lol, I don't use the coordinating lotion though I just use vaseline intensive repair for sensitive skin lotion on my baby because his skin is so dry it gets rough, like scaley. I think you could do just fine with whatever wash you use though, just make sure you get between her fingers & in her palms a couple times through her bath & like I said make sure they are completely dry after baths & wipe downs. I'm sure you an kick the stink. :)
  • Just an idea...vinegar is good for.getting smells out of things. I bet even if you diluted it 50/50 vinegar to water and washed her hands with a wash cloth, then rinse with water afterwards....may help with the smell. Vinegar naturally has antimicrobial properties, so it's great for a lot of cleaning. :)
  • @rtmommy thank you, thats a really good idea, i use vinegar for cleaning the kitchen so i'll definitely give that a try.

    thanks for the ideas ladies @ momma_tiffay @mommyof4 :-)
  • Naliyahs would do that too and to be honest theres nothing you really can do because they keep their hands so tight when they are little and they just stay sweaty cause they keep them closed...naliyahs where like that but she's 4 months now and they don't stink anymore cause she has her hands open more often...just make sure when u give her a bath that you clean her palms real good and in between her fingers
  • @momma_tiffay The aveeno baby wash has been recalled for to much bacteria. Check a recall list, I don't use it, just something I saw on here.
  • @heather3rdgirl, thanks but I'm pretty sure it was for lotion, not the soap.
  • K just wanted to help you rule things out, and give a heads up.
