Plagiocephaly/Brachycephaly/Flat Head babies

edited February 2012 in Babies Health
My baby is 4.5 months old I took him to a cranio specialist for his Flat head.. =( Im so distraught over this. God knows I dont want my son to grow up being teased, bullied or feeling self concious. Anybody going through the same thing?

  • My doctor just told us at aadyns checkuo (hes 10wks) we need to try n get him to lay on his left side more bc the other side is starting to flatten a little. I think its fairly common though
  • I am. My daughter gets her helmet from Cranial Technologies on Monday. So nervous on how she'll react once it's on.
  • Going through it now. But my 4 month old also has torticollis, which is a muscular problem with his neck, that caused his flat head. We're fixing it with physical therapy and possible helmet.
  • Good luck @monkey_girl. I'm looking forward to getting his helmet but the doc is making us wait 1 more month my son is 4.5 months. Please let me know how she takes to it.
@kteebeth I considered that he might have torticollis but he turns his head both ways w/no problems. Im just glad i took him to the doctor. It seems when ever I relate my thoughts and feelings about his flat head my family and friends think im NUTS.

Really? My doctor referred me to Cranial Tech at 4months. I would start the process or at least get an evaluation from Cranial Tech because it's a long process/battle if you have HMO. She's turning 6 months and barley getting her helmet. After a long battl, Insurance is paying 100%
  • @gissy66 My lo turns both ways but his head sits crooked when sitting up. He prefers right over left. Still look into it.
  • My daughter is 5 months and her head is a little flat in the back. She also prefers to tilt her head to the left. She can turn both ways. She has a doc appt. On tuesday so she can tell me if she has torticolli. Is this something that can be corrected?
  • One of my twins has it and tortocollis he had a helmet and its working
  • Congrats to you on beating the ins company they can be a pain in the rear. And thanks for the heads up. The doctor circled a number and said because it was over that 91 number that the insurance wouldnt give me a hard time. Buuut anyhow right now he doesnt have ins. My husband has been taken his sweet lil ol' time to put him on since the time I moved to Miami from Jersey (2mths ago) but hopefully we won't have a problem (crossing my fingers).
